Joan Donna Cousins (née Wilbur)

Joan Cousins passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Royalcliffe Retirement Residence in London, Ontario. Dear mother of Stuart and his wife Dayna, and of Barry and his wife Susan. Beloved grandmother of Leena and Jackson. Dear sister of Larry (Letitia). Joan is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Wayne (2016); her son, Steve (2022); her sister, Kay (2022); and her daughter-in-law, Sawako (2012).

Joan was born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario. She graduated from S.C.I.&T.S. in 1957. In early 1958 a new guy joined Joan’s carpool, and soon Joan and Wayne were going on skating dates. Joan and Wayne were married and she became a busy mother to their three active sons. In 1986 Joan and Wayne moved to Monroe Falls, Ohio when Wayne’s job providing technical expertise to the rubber industry was transferred to Akron. In 2001 they moved back to Canada and settled in London, Ontario.

Joan loved to play bridge, to golf, and to shop. She was a long-time member of P.E.O. (Chapter BK in Ohio and Chapter M in London). She was a member of the London Newcomers Alumna and served on the executive of that group. Joan had a passion for duplicate bridge and was a member of the London Bridge Club. Joan and Wayne were frequent travellers and enjoyed many memorable vacations together with family and friends. Joan wrote extensively about family folklore and the family is very lucky to have these books of memories, stories and photos to keep.

The family wishes to thank Joan’s many doctors and nurses and the London Regional Cancer Clinic.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held.
