Janet Marie Hughes
August 19, 2017
Peacefully, at McGarrell Place Long Term Care, in London, on Saturday, August 19, 2017, Janet Marie Hughes (née Klue), of London, in her 83rd year. Beloved mother of Jayne Graham (Todd) and Jill Hubbell (Dave). Predeceased by her son, Jim (2010) and husband, Cam (1980). Special grandmother of Emily and Amanda Graham, and Hillary and Spencer Hubbell. Loving sister of Gary Klue (Carolyn). Treasured aunt of Tracy McCrea (Simon) and Heather Verkoczy (Francis). Dear great-aunt of Daniel and Lauren Caley and Maelle Verkoczy. Survived by many cousins with whom she shared special memories. Janet was born and raised in London, Ontario. She developed lifelong relationships with many friends in the City especially from her days working at SuperTest. Janet met her husband, Cam, on a blind date in Hamilton in 1960 and, after they were married, moved to Ottawa and then Carleton Place, Ontario. Janet always supported Cam in his entrepreneurial ventures including a grocery store and music business while raising three children. When Cam died, Janet moved back to London working as a secretary at Western University to support her family. Although caring for her son, Jim, whose long struggle with epilepsy, along with her own health issues, created many challenges, her love and dedication to him always endured. A liver transplant in 1990 gave Janet a new lease on life for which she was forever grateful. When Jim passed away suddenly, Janet’s positive outlook helped her move forward with her own life. She travelled, volunteered, played shuffleboard, was a proud ‘Red Hat’ and enjoyed more time with family and friends. Janet will always be remembered for her positivity and kind and gentle heart. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where the funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a dog a home or donating to an animal shelter/organization in her name as Janet loved dogs. Also, remember to sign your organ donor card and ‘Give the Gift of Life’.

Our condolences to the family for your loss. Janet & I met a few years a go through art classes. Her painting talent was enviable!! We had many laughs while car pooling. She brought us to the :Gift of Life" Art show/auction and soon lost her to the many friends she knew there! We love animals as well and will donate to a shelter in her name. She will be missed! I was shocked today to learn about Dear Janet as I have been away all summer. She was a long time friend who was also in my wedding party.
