Janet ‘Jan’ Davis
August 14, 1952 - March 3, 2023
Surrounded by her loving family, Janet Davis passed peacefully away on Friday, March 3, 2023. Her memory will be forever cherished by Owen, her husband of 49 years; by her three children, Erin Christian (Dan), Brian (Nathalie Edwards-Leroux) and Jill Davis-Henderson (Jeremy Henderson); and by the seven grandchildren she so adored: Oliver, Jocelyn, Declan, Bram, Miles, Walter and Callum. She will be greatly missed also by her siblings: Bob Mitchell (Marion), Dolores Culmer (John), Neil Mitchell (Lana), Mark Mitchell (Kathleen Blagrave) and Karen Shanahan (Rick); and by her many nieces and nephews and their children.
Jan was born and raised in Montreal, the daughter of the late Eileen and Victor Mitchell, and moved to London with Owen in 1975. She pursued her calling as a registered nurse for 43 years, mostly at University Hospital. Demanding as it was, she thoroughly enjoyed her work at the hospital through all those years, and took great pride in her profession. That professionalism and her dedication to always putting patients first made her highly respected by her colleagues.
But devoted to her vocation as she was, nothing mattered more to Jan than family. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, in-law, aunt, great-aunt and Gran, she showered all of us with her boundless love, support and wisdom, and provided a constant example of how to live a successful and happy life. All that and she fed us with her amazing cooking and baking, made always, as she loved to tell her grandkids, with her secret ingredient: love.
Jan lived a life of selflessness and giving; she loved doing things for others, whether it was her family, her patients or her friends. She was a relentlessly positive person who enjoyed life thoroughly. She loved to travel, seeing new places, meeting new people and experiencing other cultures. She cherished her many friends: her bridge buddies, her golf buddies, her euchre buddies, her book club buddies. She often spoke of how grateful she was for the many close and lifelong friendships she had developed with her colleagues at the hospital.
The family would like to thank the many dedicated health care workers who have helped Jan throughout the past two years.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment of ashes will be held. Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jan are asked to consider Brain Cancer Canada.
