James (Jim) Duncan
August 24, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Duncan announces his passing on Friday, August 24, 2018. Jim was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick on April 3, 1946 to Arnold and Margaret Duncan, and grew up in Dalhousie. After attending Mount Allison University in Sackville, Jim moved to Owen Sound where he taught math for over 30 years at West Hill Secondary School. After retiring, Jim moved to London and enjoyed spending time with friends, doing on-line jigsaw puzzles, sun tanning and singing in the Pride Men’s Chorus. Jim is survived by his siblings: Jeanne, of Saint John; Judy, of Sarasota; Brian, of Whitby; and Debbie, of Mississauga. Also survived by his nephew, Bryan (Lisa) and niece, Tarah (Russ), and their children: Nyla, Greta, Riley and Mitchell. Jim will be fondly remembered for his sarcastic wit, his generosity and his many acts of kindness. Jim will be greatly missed by his family, including cousins in Ontario and New Brunswick; his adoptive family, Richard and Sonja Green; and the many friends made during his teaching career, his retirement years in London, and his travels across North America, and on-line. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at University and Victoria Hospitals for their compassionate care during his final days. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Program or a charity of your choice.

I only heard this morning of Jimmy's passing.my sincere sympathy to Jeanne, Judy, Brian Debbie and all of Jim's extended family. we grew up together, then lost touch and reconnected at his high school reunion. We had a great time reminiscing and getting caught up on our lives. . Then we kept in touch via facebook. Rest In Peace Jim.
It came as a great shock when I heard the news from Gail. Jim and I communicated on facebook and the occasional phone call. I really regret not seeing Jim more often considering how close we lived. Your wit and humour will be missed Jim, always enjoyed your rants on facebook regarding proper grammar and your opinion of #45. My condolences to the rest of the Duncan family. Jim you will be missed, until we meet again.
I shall miss Jim so very much~ when I moved to Oakville we sort of connected up again~ he spent a lot of time visiting us a way back when they lived so close~I know about his FaceTiming ~he and I both got the same phone~Apple 8 Extra and he loved this feature more than just talking~but he would catch me at awkward times sometimes~ I sure will miss him and as Gail said his random phone calls were nice~I could see that he was a very intelligent man~I am so glad that he came to visit a while back~the pictures are on my TimeLine~I also was fortunate enough to have that Last FaceTime with him the night before he died~I also liked his sense of Humour~and he showed such courage through his illness and hardly complained or acted afraid~ Love to All of You~Marty xoxo
My condolences to Jim's family. I taught with Jim at WHSS and we had lots of fun during his years in Owen Sound. We spoke on the phone once he moved, and I visited him a year ago July when his choir performed. Jim had a quick wit, very quick math skills!! and a quick walk! He was difficult to keep up to. He was a very kind and generous man, as well as being very compassionate. I shall miss our phone visits and our Facebook messaging. My condolences to all.
My sincere sympathy to Jim's sisters Jeanne, Judy, Debbie, brother Brian and extended family , on the loss of your brother, I shall always remember Jim as a leader at Camp Chaleur and a very good one , so talented, singing, acting or whatever he was called to participate in, during my job there as cook, that was some time ago, good memories remain.
To our Dearest Jim who will always be in our hearts and greatly missed for his passion for life, his humorist ways and his kind and generous spirit. To his family we send out our heartfelt condolences, our thoughts, and our prayers. May he rest in peace. Love always, Richard, Sonja, Christopher, Katerina and Babi
Jim was a very good friend since we were in our early 20's. Although distance was a factor in our friendship, for me he was a true and trusted lifelong friend. He had so many great qualities, always ready with a smile and a joke. He loved life. He loved his profession. I was honoured to be his friend. He made summer courses at Waterloo University interesting, preferring to enjoy his time rather than making it a chore. We had so many good times then. He was in my wedding and we once took a North American tour. So many good memories. So sad that he is gone. I will always cherish the way he reached out to me near the end. That was one of his good traits, always thinking of others.
My sincere condolences to my best friend James' sisters & brother & never got to say "Good Bye" to James before he passed away so fast on Friday. We did chat on the phone recently, & visit when he was in St. Josephs Hospital & drop in to see James when he was back in his apartment. He was a good listener to hear me out. But the best I will never forget when I would say that I was laying down in bed, when he would call me, James would reply back "Only Chickens" lay eggs, should have said-(Lying ) James was a very kind person in all ways in life. May James now "Rest in Peace my good friend & prayers to all who knew James. William
My deepest condolences to the family. Jim was a good friend with a big heart. I will miss his sense of humour and his phone calls. Gone far too soon.
Dear Jeanne, Judy, Brian, Debbie and extended Family, We were so saddened to learn of Jim's passing. We've been keeping in touch all these years and share so many wonderful memories of time spent here on the Farm and in school together. I shall never look at a milk bottle cap without thinking of him and the hours we spent in the attic sorting through hundreds of them! Much love to you all, Sally and Ken
My sincere sympathy is extended to Jim's family. My late husband, Steve, and I taught with Jim at West Hill in Owen Sound for many years. I remember his singing and joy at so many of our staff socials as well as the crossword puzzles in the staff room that he did so well. He was our ace at mental math and at so many promotion meetings he could do the student academic averages faster in his head than those who were using their calculators. Jim also came to visit my husband when he was receiving cancer radiation in London a few years ago. We say good-bye to another fine colleague- may he rest in peace. Sincerely, Ruth Herr

I will miss his impromptu phone calls (and more recently FaceTime conversations) at such random times! It often included a rant on the demise of grammar skills, his latest jigsaw puzzle challenge, or criticism of the latest political fiasco. May you sleep in peace until we meet again. 😘
