James “Jim” Carlyle Campbell

November 8, 2024

With deep sadness and much love, the family of James (Jim) Carlyle Campbell announce that he passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario on November 8th, 2024, at the age of 88.  Jim was born on October 8, 1936 in Lobo Township, Ontario to Neil and Helen (née Ferguson) Campbell.

Jim grew up on the farm in Lobo Township and was a sportsman in his youth, playing hockey (as a goalie) and baseball (as a catcher).  He was a Mason for much of his adult life at the Doric 289 Lodge in Lobo, and later the Rising Star 81 Lodge.

He married Raeleen Hamilton on September 26, 1959.  Jim and Raeleen started a family soon thereafter.  They moved into their house in the then new neighbourhood of Huron Heights where he lived for the next 62 years. Jim and Raeleen hosted many euchre and cribbage nights with their new neighbours and Jim helped his neighbours with all the projects, like fence building, etc. that a new neighbourhood needs.

Jim was a family man and brought his enthusiasm for sports to his children, building backyard rinks, coaching hockey, and cheering at numerous slo-pitch games across Ontario and Canada.  Jim was a die-hard fan of the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays and could actually say that he saw the Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Jim started working with Davey Tree Expert Company, alongside his brother Grant, where he learned the trade of tree care. He later joined the Public Utilities Commission of London, and then subsequently London Hydro. In retirement, Jim and Raeleen enjoyed some travel to Mexico and Cuba, but they were usually happiest with their life at home and their grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his sister, Mary Sells, and his children Bradley (Carolyn), Robert (Suzanne), Kimberly and Lisa (Mindy).  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alec (Corina), Rachael (Scott), Scott (Dalyn), Jessica and his great-granddaughter, Marlowe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Raeleen Campbell (nee Hamilton) in 2014.  He was also predeceased by his parents, his siblings Colin, Malcom, Grant, Jean, and Sarah and many in-laws.

A visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Jim will be interred alongside Raeleen at the Poplar Hill Cemetery at a family gathering.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Chartwell Royalcliffe Retirement Residence for their support, service and kindness given to Jim over the last several months.   The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital for their efforts, talents and hope during Jim’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may, if desired, make a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca.
