Jack Macklin
May 9, 2012
It is with enormous grief and heavy hearts that the family of Jack Macklin announces his passing on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 at the age of forty-four. Jack was born to Scottish immigrants Jack Sr. and Rita in Windsor and raised in Chatham with his sister Leslie. A hard-working skilled tradesman who put himself through Fanshawe College, Jack valued working with his hands and having mechanical skills. He loved history, disliked ignorance, and loved to travel. Having met and married the love of his life, Bonnie, they worked together raising their two sons, Drew and Adam. Jack wanted to ensure that he instilled in his sons the same values that had been instilled in him from a young age: love your family, treasure your friends, and embrace life. Jack loved attending his sons’ hockey games, keeping in touch with life-long friends, and the rock band RUSH. He was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan and was rarely seen without his signature Detroit Tigers baseball hat on. Jack faced his cancer diagnosis with the same strength of character that he had shown throughout his life, as he always wanted to set a good example for his sons. Jack felt that his marriage to Bonnie and having his sons were his two greatest accomplishments, and this sentiment was never more evident than in his final weeks. He will be missed by friends and family and as he left us, in his final moments, Jack surely heard someone say “Son…grab your things, I’ve come to take you home.” Thank you to the dedicated nurses on Jack’s VON Palliative Care Team and the wonderful staff at the London Regional Cancer Centre. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the London Health Sciences Centre – London Regional Cancer Program would be appreciated.

Bonnie, my heart goes out to you and your kids. I remember when he told me about you when you met. I knew from the start that you were his true love. Everytime I have talked about Jack, the one thing I always said, even now. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He got me through some tough times. We got married and had kids and to a point went our own ways. But I always knew he was one of my good friends. I have family ties with him, from me and my family working with him for many years. He was a great friend to me and I know a great father and husband to you. I will never forget him. I am glad he found the love of his life in you.

Dearest Family of Jack Macklin, I join with so many others in offering my deepest sympathy on Jack's passing. The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the love they carried. His passing will not only leave a void in your lives, but in the hearts of everyone who knew him. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.
When I think about my childhood there aren't too many moments where Jack wasn't there. His passion and kindness were infectious. If it weren't for him I wouldn't know how to make a good mix tape or which one of the army men was the captain. Rest in peace Jack.
You fought the good fight Jack. I know we hadn't seen one another in years, but I still remember all the mischief and fun you, Mark, Ken and I had together through our high school years. I am going to miss you, as I know all of your family and friends will, whom I give my deepest sympathies. Rest in peace Jack. You were one of the good ones.
Rest in peace Jack Macklin. We will always treasure our days spent with you and your incredible smile and sparkling personality. Love you brother,
My heart aches for Jack's family. They have lost a terrific husband and father. I remember well when the kids were born and how excited and proud Jack was. Their birth announcements stayed hung up at work for ages!!!! What a pleasure to work and know this man, he had many friends and deserved them all. My thoughts are with his entire family, they have lost a wonderful person physically, but Jack will live on in his cherished sons.

Sincerest condolences Bonnie, Drew, Adam & Family ~ Jack was one of God's blessings to me - a neighbour! I delighted in regularly seeing and talking to this sweet, gentle man as I would come up through the walkway with Otto and then Archie. Jack would be playing outside with his boys after work waiting for Bonnie to come home. I saw him as the best Dad ever - patient, kind and fun. We were all blessed.
