J. Doreen Clark

October 15, 2011

J. Doreen Clark (nee Jackman)

Oct 9, 1928 – Oct 15, 2011

Predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 60 years Harold, Doreen lived a full life touching many hearts.  She leaves behind family and friends who will celebrate her life with each memory recalled.  Doreen is survived by her sons, Doug, his wife Gaye and their children:  Jennifer and Ryan of Etobicoke; Greg, his wife Diane, his children: Laura and Peter and their mother Carol, all in the London area; and Ian, his wife Alison and their children: Andrew and Miranda of Waterloo.  Doreen’s first great love was singing in the church choir.  Her love of music continued and encouraged her family’s music appreciation every chance she could.  Handel and Mozart were her favourites.  She volunteered at the Grace Hospital in Toronto, managing the mobile gift cart like her own little store.  Concurrently, Doreen was vice-president of the Anglican Church Women, Toronto Diocese, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at St Luke’s, Dixie and cheered loudly at her sons’ hockey games.  Doreen and Harold celebrated their 20th anniversary in Bermuda, fell in love all over again and returned many times with family and friends.  They joked that they’ll have a brief Bermuda flyover as they come in for a landing at Heaven!  Their greatest joy was their six grandchildren and they made sure to celebrate each of their strengths.  Each knew they were loved and each had a special place in their grandmother’s heart.  Doreen looked forward to her beloved Toronto Blue Jays taking the field and she would often sit with her ball cap slightly askew vociferously cheering in delight of a well-turned double-play or in derision of a muffed opportunity – much to Harold’s bemusement or anyone else within ear-shot.  As their time together came to an end, Doreen and Harold had many chances to “say what needed to be said” and encouraged others to seek God in their lives.  Doreen spent her last months at Valleyview Home in St Thomas and wishes to thank all the staff for helping her to be as comfortable as possible.  Though separated for a couple of years, Mom and Dad are dancing together again at the reunion!

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, October 20th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.  Private interment at a later date at McNeil Cemetery, Priceville, Ontario.  Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Doreen are asked to consider Forest City Community Church.

Your Mom sounds like a wonderful woman Greg and Diane with a very full life. She is now with her heavenly Father and what could be a greater comfort to you than that. I know you will miss her and things do change in a family when Mom and Dad are gone but you go about redefining family and the cycle of life continues. I just emjoyed Tuesdays with Morrie yesterday and the life and death lessons from that story are very real with me as I think about you both this morning :) Take care and know that God has his arms aroud you both in your sadness. Love, Shirley
