Irving ‘Scott’ Fowler
November 28, 2020
It was time to say goodbye, to our darling Scott. He passed away peacefully, with such grace and dignity at home in London, on Saturday, November 28, 2020, with his children Kyra and Ian, and his forever love, Sandra, of 37 years, by his side. He will be missed by his grandsons, Andrew Fowler, Mark and Jamie Kappele; daughter-in-law Concie Fowler; son-in-law David Kappele; and his sister Anne Powell and her family. With open arms, he is now embracing his youngest son, Mark; his first wife, Andrea Crookston; and his parents, Jessie and Murray Fowler. Before he passed, he reached out to his extended family, friends and colleagues, and gave them his heart; they felt wiser and more cherished because of it.
Scott raised his three children in Toronto, with lots of fond memories of Cedar Point, Ontario, Windermere Island and Harbour Island in The Bahamas. Latterly, he and Sandra spent many winters in Vero Beach, Florida, a little slice of paradise. Family was everything to him; he made sure everyone knew they were loved in a special way. He loved gardening, was an avid reader, collected wine, and spent special time with friends improving his golf game.
He graduated with an Honours degree in Economics at Western University and began his career as an oil and gas analyst, which led him to be recruited to McLeod Young Weir to run the institutional sales for many years. Seeking a new challenge, Scott then joined Merrill Lynch and was instrumental in making it third in corporate finance in Canada. His true passion came when he co-founded with two senior partners, Orenda Corporate Finance (a mid-market investment advisory firm), and the IAIB, creating a network of M&A firms around the world. Nothing gave him more joy than helping his clients not only succeed, but excel beyond their dreams. He was a client’s client. He would push them to think outside the box. Scott then became an advisory board member of a number of privately held companies, which gave him such a sense of accomplishment. As Scott said many times, his raison d’être for living was to always be relevant; this is how he lived every day until he left us.
His final step in his journey was in London, Ontario, where he and Sandra moved to be closer to family. He wanted her to be surrounded by loved ones when it was time for him to go. He was a treasure among men; we all would say, he was “strong like bull…they broke the mold.” We will miss him enormously, but his spirit will always be with us forever.
A private funeral service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. A memorial tree will be planted in Scott’s memory. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Scott are asked to consider Make-A-Wish Canada (www.shorturl.at/ahmAO).

I was a client of Scott for 15+ years and a friend for more than that number. He was one of my favourites and a person I count count on. So sorry to discover I missed his passing...I will remember him always.
Scott was a treasured friend of the Crerar family for many years. Our deepest condolences to Sandra, Ian and Kyra. I had the pleasure of babysitting Ian, Mark and Kyra so many years ago. Scott's booming voice and big hugs were always a welcome addition to farm weekends when he and Sandra visited. Their deep connection and bond was obvious to all. I know my father, Bill, shaken and saddened by this loss, will miss dearly Scott's wise and positive conversations. So many good memories to hold close. You are all in our thoughts, Kelly

My condolences to the entire Fowler family, many of whom I had the pleasure to get to know over the years. I met Scott at Merrill Lynch in 1986 and he has been a great Bay Street colleague since that time.

Dear Sandra, Kyra and Ian, Our deepest condolences to you all during this especially difficult time. Our family has such wonderful memories of Scott - his big boisterous laugh, contagious smile and wicked sense of humour. Thinking of you all and god bless. Lauren
Scott was a truly unique, caring, down to earth, considerate man. He was one of my favourites in Dr Griffin's family practice. He always brought a smile to my face every time I saw him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. My thoughts go out to Sandra & the whole family. Prayers & blessings, Trudy Milne
My sincerest condolences Sandra, Ian and Krya, to you and your entire family. Scott was a tower of a human being whom I will miss a lot. Smart, funny (really funny), charming, engaged, curious, caring, the list could go on and on. And his blue eyes never shone brighter than when he spoke of his family and friends. Many of us know of the personal challenges he faced over the course of his impactful life, but through it all he remained positive, uplifting and inspirational. He led by example, which as far as I'm concerned, is the greatest of all leadership traits and a great legacy for a great person. God bless.
Sandra, I just heard about your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. Scott was such a warm soul. His sense of humour and welcoming personality was such a delight as you both made us feel welcome as your neighbours at Beacon Hall. Thinking of you, Terri

I was thinking of Mr. Fowler today and thought to do an internet search and fell upon the news of his passing. I was his Sales Assistant at McLeod when he was ininstitional salesman along side Fred Kechen, Murray Gregga, Harry Talbot, Rick Belknap in the mid 1970s. He was always very nice to me. God rest his soul and may his memory be eternal.
