Irene Beck

June 11, 2017

It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Irene Beck (Stoutenburg) who left us peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on June 11, 2017 at age 84.  A beloved wife and best friend to Edward Beck (Apfelbeck) to whom she was married for 62 years.  An inspirational and supportive mother to Nancy Pettit and Gary Beck and a special friend to Lesley. She is survived by her brothers Bruce and Donna Green, and Bill and Kay Stoutenburg.  Irene has now re-united with her sisters Jean Holmes and Doreen Stacey.  Irene was a wonderful, caring grandmother to Kristen Mussio and her husband Jeff, Brandon Pettit and his wife Maggie, Jennifer Beck and her husband Ben, and Kelly Beck and her fiancé Brien. She felt incredibly fortunate to also be a great grandmother to Myah, Matteo and Sophia and her values as a compassionate, caring person will live on in them.  Irene was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 55 years.  With Ed by her side she lived an exciting, full life curling, golfing, travelling.   As avid sailors she and Ed spent many amazing years in Bayfield enjoying those beautiful sunsets on the waters of Lake Huron.  She truly was a kind and genuine person who always put others needs ahead of her own.  Her family would like to thank the nursing staff at Victoria Palliative Care for the incredible care they provided along with Dr.’s Lenehan, Malik and Tansia for their compassion and comfort.  Also C.C.A.C. for making it possible to fulfill her wish to come home. Friends and family will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the memorial service and celebration of Irene’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  Memorial donations may be made to the London Regional Cancer Program and New Apostolic Church.

A great Lady who we shall miss !!

Gary and Nancy , I am saddened to hear of Irene's passing. My family and I were the recipients of Ed and Irene's enormous generosity and welcoming nature. I can truly say they changed our lives. Between visits to the cottage in Bayfield , their home in Lucan and many days on the boat Irene was the consumate hostess and friend. To this day a Christmas does not pass when we don't enjoy Mothers Christmas Helper. A wonderful breakfast that Irene shared with us at one of our trips to Bayfield. Indeed Irene hosted a welcoming party for us when we moved into the neighbourhood in Lucan and again when we moved back to London 20 years later! Truly, the best neighbours one could ever have. I am sure you are well aware of how proud Irene was of her children. The only thing that could surpass that was her love of her grandchildren! Finally, Irene's love and support for Ed was also inspiring. She fully supported all of his dreams and adventures and they were a model to my wife Cheryl and I of how to grow old with class and grace ! John , Mac and Patrick Barry

Dear Ed, Nancy, Gary and Families: This sad news came as a real shock. Your loss is shared by many. Irene was like a second Mom to me, especially when our address was Richmond Hill. She tucked me into bed and kissed me good night on numerous occasions. My pleasure was in knowing such a wonderful Lady and beautiful Friend. My sincere condolences to all.

Dear Ed, Nancy and Gary, We were saddened to hear about Irene's passing. We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with Irene and Ed at mom and dad's 60th wedding anniversary gathering last July. (Ed was dad's best man.) As always, Irene looked beautiful and so was her unforgettable smile. She spoke proudly of her family and displayed such kindness and friendliness to everyone there. Our thoughts are with you and your families during this difficult time.
