Helen ‘Eleni’ Laskaris (née Diles)

January 14, 2024

Our beloved mother Helen, passed away at home in London, Ontario in her 93rd year, peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, January 14th, 2024.

Eldest daughter of the late Nicholas and Georgia Diles. Beloved wife for 38 years to the late George Laskaris.

Loved and missed by her children Stella Allilomis and her husband Gus, Peter Laskaris and his wife Maria, Georgina Spanogiannis and her husband Chris.

Left to mourn are her beautiful grandchildren Lena Allilomis-Klein (Andrew), George Laskaris (Samantha), Gabrielle Healey, Demetre Laskaris, Maria Spanogiannis, Eleni Spanogiannis, and Peter Spanogiannis.

Helen was a great-grandmother to Dalia Klein and Rosie Klein.

Predeceased by her sister Constantina Makris and her husband Giakoumis Makris, her brother Louis Diles, her sister Maria Pavoris and her husband George Pavoris, her sister Bessie Traylor.

Helen will be missed by many nieces and nephews in London, Toronto, Montreal, Las Vegas, Greece and Cyprus.

Helen emigrated from Methoni, Kalamata, Greece to Canada in 1954. She met and fell in love with her husband George, in Toronto, Ontario. They later married in Montreal, Quebec, and together they assimilated to Canada’s way of life. They ultimately moved to London, Ontario, raised their children and were partners in life and business.

They were both proud parishioners and members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and Community of London. Helen proudly volunteered her time to the church, the community and the Ladies of Philoptochos.

She loved to help look after each and every one of her grandchildren when they were younger.

After the loss of her husband and after her own retirement, she moved to Markham where she spent her senior years. She independently resided in her apartment for over 22 years. Helen also enjoyed being a member of the Markham Seniors Club. There she spent her time with friends on casino trips, playing bingo, and doing yoga.

In 2022, she chose to move back to London to live out the rest of her life with her family.

A special thank you to Dr. Kirk Hamilton, his palliative care team, especially her nurse Diya, for their extraordinary care and for supporting her to live out her last days at home.

Family and friends will be received for visitation at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, with prayers at 8:00 pm presiding by Reverend Father Konstantine Chatzis.
