Giovanni “John” Trocchi

May 14, 1961 - October 2, 2023

Giovanni “John” Trocchi died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a two year battle with esophageal cancer. John was born May 14, 1961 in London, Ontario to Pietro and Vincenza, and was big brother to Enzo (Sandy) and Lucy (Richard). He was a beloved brother-in-law to Mike, Joc, Barb, Sue, Owen, Mark, Janice, and Phil.

John worked at LHSC for 42 years, starting in housekeeping and finishing in Healthcare Materials Management (HMMS). He delayed his retirement by six months to ensure staff had a continuous, safe supply of safety equipment at the start of COVID. John was proudly surrounded by a great team at HMMS that he considered to be his second family. Their support throughout his cancer journey raised his spirits as they shared stories, food, drinks, and much laughter.

John was an avid golfer and proud member of the Westhaven Golf and Country Club. He made many new friendships through golf and was grateful for the comradery of the Mens League, and he loved earning “skins” in match play. John truly felt loved over the last years of his life as he caught up with old friends and visited with extended family from London, Niagara Falls, Windsor, Collingwood and many relatives in Ceprano, Italy.

Family was the centre of John’s life and it included his best friend and wife of 35 years, Cathy; as well as five beautiful children: Matthew (Abby), Nicole (Eric), Christina, Ryan and baby Christopher in Heaven.

John loved sports and had success as a goalie for the Marconi Club, as a football player at UWO, and he often coached his children’s soccer teams. He was the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines. John was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays fan. He enjoyed some special games, swag and souvenirs as he made memories.

In retirement, John’s proudest role was as a “Papa” to his beloved granddaughters Ellie Rose and Camryn Rae. They brought him endless joy as he shared his recliner, his love of music videos, read them books and sang nursery rhymes. He helped to shape them into strong, funny, confident and spirited young girls.

John was “Uncle John” to Brandon (Nina), Rebecca (Michael), Emily, Jacob, Zachary, Andrew (Tasha), Spencer, Julia, Michael, Rachel, Matthew, Avery and Cali.

John and his family are especially grateful for our “bonus year” together as John outlived his initial prognosis of three to six-month survival. John created memories with his family with a luxury beach holiday in Grand Bend, a surprise 60th birthday for Cathy, and a final escape to Mexico. We are forever grateful for his love, kindness, generosity, humour and friendship.

Rest in peace, John. It was truly an honour to have you as part of our lives.

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of John. It was nice to see to John and Cathy last summer at his parent's house last summer while visiting London from Edmonton. We would like to express our condolences to Cathy and to his children and to his parents Pietro and Vincenza, his siblings Enzo and Lucy and all of the Trocchi family. We are thinking about you. With love and sympathy, The De Lellis Family from Edmonton.

Our deepest condolences to the Trocchi family. We have great memories of John from school. On the football field he was fierce, but off the field, he was kindhearted and generous - an absolute gentle giant. Liz had the great fortune of teaching his children, who embody the same wonderful traits as their dad. He will surely be missed. Mike and Elizabeth Santolupo

To the Trocchi family, My deepest sympathy on John’s passing. I had the pleasure of interacting with John in his role at HMMS. He was always willing to step up and help find a solution to support patient care. He was always friendly and kind. May your memories provide you comfort in the days ahead.

A donation has been made to Canadian Cancer Society. Message from the donator: Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family. I had the pleasure of working with John for approximately 18 years and there were many great laughs amongst the team. He was always one step ahead with his quick-witted humor! He was very much a proud family man and always glowed when he talked about what his children were up to! He will be remembered by so many.

My condolences to Cathy and his entire family. I worked with John at UH when he worked in our pharmacy stores. He was a funny, friendly guy who made me feel welcome as a new employee. He will be missed.

I worked with John a long time. He was a member of our leadership team for 20+ years at HMMS. I remember him as a wonderful human being who led fundraisers for our community, raised an exceptional family and set the hundreds of HMMS employees up for success, given he helped establish HMMS. Cathy, you and John welcomed my family to London with open arms and extra Ringette equipment :) . He was always unselfishly focused on others. He even delayed his retirement during the onset of the COVID pandemic to help ensure patients didn’t suffer. That was pretty amazing and very unselfish. That was John. John always went above and beyond to make sure the front line health care providers had what they needed, his team was set up for success and everybody he met had a smile on their face. He was an awesome person and pretty darn good golfer. We are all so lucky to have met and worked with him. He has made the world a better place. Our deepest condolences to the Trocchi family
