Gerald “Jerry” Sanders

April 27, 2025

Jerry passed away peacefully at home, with his children by his side, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in his 90th year.

Beloved partner/husband of the late Edward Arnett-Sanders (2021).

Predeceased by his parents, Alexander (Sandy) Sanders and Dorothy Mae Sanders (Phillips) and his former wife Madlyne Deane (McLeod) (Sanders), mother of their three children.

Loving father of Kim (Bob) Case, Arlie (2015) (Craig 2011) Saunders and Jerry (Cheryl) Sanders. Adored grandfather of Mandy (Tony) Willemse, Stacey Case (2001), Dawn (Sean) Maguire, CJ (Amy) Saunders, Jack (Susannah) Saunders, Halie (Tyler) Sefton, Shelby (Craig) Moir, Madison Sanders, Nicole Doucette and Chris (Jen) Doucette.

Cherished great-grandfather of Hannah, Lyla and Penelope; Olive, Hank and Maple; Aubrey; Smith and Demi; Cade, Mason, Claire, Archer and Lily; Hayden and Leighton; Mylee and Ella; and Wyatt.

He will be dearly missed by his Arnett family, including Tom, Jon (Judy), Robert (Mary), and Anne and their families.

Jerry was a prominent restauranteur who owned and operated Sanders on the Beach in Grand Bend from 1973-2003, with lots of help from his children, his first wife Madlyne, his husband Edward, as well as the terrific staff throughout those wonderful years.  He also owned Hotel Mainstreet, until it sold in 1995. Jerry and Edward would spend their winters in North Port, Florida, both enjoying their home and the sun.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service at a later date.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Tomas Jimenez, Tara at Ontario Health at Home, Cathy Fuller for all the extra help, and his nurse, Deepthi.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jerry are asked to consider MS Canada or the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre (formerly London Regional Cancer Program).

Heartfelt condolences to Jerry's family. For many years we benefited from Jerry's dedication to his ever-expanding garden. He loved being outside and he seemed to love hard work, the combination resulting in a beautiful, unique garden that as his neighbours we truly enjoyed. We have many good memories of interactions with Jerry over the years and will especially remember him with his beloved Little Bit & Princess and, of course, with Ed. They were a fun couple who withstood the test of time. Ed's premature death was a deep blow to Jerry. May he now be at peace.

Dear Kimmy and Bob ..and the entire Sanders family, I am so very saddened to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have SO many wonderful memories of times spent at Sanders on the Beach. That is where I first met you and your parents and family. Losing our parents is so hard…they are the first ones that loved us unconditionally and as we grow older and become the care givers, its so different. Your Dad was a great gentleman and will be truly missed by all that knew him. Hold your wonderful memories close and be thankful for the time that you had with him❤️ Sending hugs and love Paula
