Geoffrey Alan Fry

January 30, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Geoff Fry, after a courageous and optimistic battle with cancer, he died suddenly on Monday, January 30, 2017. Our dad loved life; he loved to be active; he enjoyed swimming, tennis, curling and loved being in the great outdoors.  He loved music and enjoyed playing his electone. He was a proud and avid supporter of the Western Mustang’s football team. Dad will be forever missed by daughter Christine (Paul), Brad (Melissa) and his grandchildren Nate, Jordyn, Ben, and Camryn, who adored their beloved Papa.  Dad is fondly remembered and loved by his sisters Deb (John), Barb (Ron), and nieces and nephews.  He holds a special place in the heart of our step-mother Mary, our mother Sharon, and the Wolfe and Reilly families.  He is predeceased by his parents William and Joan Fry.  Our dad loved to help others to achieve their dreams and will be dearly missed by many friends and clients.  His beloved dog Algonquin Park “Parker” will deeply miss his most trusted friend. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 3rd, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a donation in Geoff’s memory are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or The Friends of Algonquin Park.

We send our deepest condolences to you & your family at this very sad time. Jordan Gray Garage was lucky enough to have Geoff as our own personal accountant & was quick to return calls when ever Cheryl our bookkeeper would call with time sensitive issues. Geoff always had a smile on his face & was ready to tackle any of the accounting screw ups that might have occurred. He will be missed greatly. Rest in peace Geoff, you were a kind soul. Our prayers are with you all.

It was with great sadness that I opened the Prince Albert paper today and saw Geoff's obituary. I no longer live in PA, but am here to clear out the family home after my father's passing last summer. Was it a coincidence that I was leafing through old Year Books last evening? Geoff and I went through school together, part of a group of friends that are now spread far and wide. From my parents' passing, I learned that grieving families will often smile at anecdotes....so I offer you this one: Geoff & I grew up primarily in the 60's, when bell-bottom jeans were all the rage....the bigger the bells, the better. While the rest of our group had to be content with whatever the stores carried, Geoff had a pair custom-made with 36" bells! I will never forget us all walking back from the Princess Cafe after fries and Cokes....waiting to cross at the Kresge Corner, when the wind caught those 36" bells and wrapped Geoff's feet together, and we ALL went down like dominoes! Looking at the obituary picture.....he may have lost some hair since I knew him, but that smile is the one I remember! God bless you all, and may you find peace and comfort.

All week I have been trying to get my mind around the fact I will never see or laugh with my cousin Geoff again . As he would say, "Man is this hard!" Geoff was the kindest most caring optimist I have ever known. He knew he wasn't perfect or blameless and yet always considered the ramifications of his actions on others. He loved his parents and his sisters very much. He was so proud of his daughter Christine and his son Brad. Geoff would smile with a twinkle when he spoke about his grandchildren . And we all knew how he felt about Parker. It is an understatement to say Geoff will be missed by so many. There are family members, friends, clients and people who had never met him and wanted to who will be mourning his death. I know that he got me and cared for me . Thanks to Geoff I will always remember it's not what you say to people that matters , it's how you make them feel. My Mom (Auntie Rae) would say, "...and now you know." My Dad would say , "You get to see Harry now. God bless. " Love your cousin and friend always, Evie Fry Thain 2017

Dear Christine and Brad, We were deeply saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. We have many, many fond memories of times spent with your Mom and Dad, as well as the many family get togethers when all of you children were small. Bob and Geoff work together at the Bank for several years, and spent many, many Saturday and Sunday mornings on the golf course. They were even crazy enough to golf in the snow.... your Dad spray painted the golf balls bright orange and dried them in the oven. We all had a good laugh over that! We will cherish the memories. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. With our sincere sympathy, Bob, Joanne , Jason and Heather Gray

We are writing to apologize for not being able to join you yesterday and to tell you all personally how terribly sad we are to have lost a close business colleague and friend. As others have said, Geoff was so optimistic about beating this devastating disease. Perhaps it was a blessing that he left us before he had to know the results of his most recent tests. Ever true to his business ethics, Geoff still worried about our accounts as late as a couple of weeks before his death. We will miss his 'personal' service - letting himself into our house with a hidden key to pick up files and delivering them back the same way, if we couldn't make our dates coincide. But most of all, we will miss a wonderful human being, full of good humour and love for his children and grandchildren about whom he talked often. Best regards, Beate and Gary

Debbie - john and exteended family of Geoff We are sorry to see that Geoff has ended the mortal part of his journey and and now advances to the eternal From his final notice it is quite obviooous that he lived a very accomplished and meaningful life. His years were too short but his presence was quite large . His memory will live on in his family and multitude of those whom he met on the road of his life. May his eternal rest be in peace. Sincere condolences and best wishes.

Dear Christine and Paul, Brad and Melissa, Just wanted to pay our respects to your Dad, Geoff. A few Christmases ago Geoff sent us some wonderful family photos of you all and it was so easy to tell how much he loved you - he will miss you too. It is so hard to lose a family member - we are thinking of you all at this time. Love, Doug and Christine (Fry) Allen Vancouver BC

Geoff may have started out as our accountant, but he quickly became a friend. We will miss him. We know how much he cared for his family; may your memories give you comfort as you learn to carry on without him.

Debbie and Barb and Geoff's family, I am very sorry for your loss. I remember Geoff and the times your family spent at your cabin at Emma Lake with great fondness. Geoff was always nice to the "little kid next door." Again, my deepest sympathies.

My deepest condolences to Christine, Brad, Mary and Geoff's extended family. My memories with uncle Geoff go back as far as I can recall. From boat rides in Bayfield to playing wang-ho in Stratford, Geoff's kind nature and quick wit were always something I looked forward to being around. He would always ask me about basketball and we would exchange hand-shakes (Ouch! Easy on an old man, he would say). I will always remember Geoff in the fondest way. And I will never be able to figure out how he did those math tricks. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend any of the services as I am teaching overseas. But my love and thoughts are with everyone.

Dear Brad and Christine and family - I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your Father - On Sunday the strangest thing happened - I picked up the envelope with the address from your Father's Christmas card and all day I had the feeling I had to talk to your Dad. Finally, on Sunday evening I called your Dad and we must have talked for at least 45 minutes. I have had cancer and your Dad and I discussed things that I know I would never have discussed with most people - Your Dad was so proud of you both and how well you have done in life and needless to say the Grandchildren were his pride and joy - If the truth was known, I never really ever talked to your Dad at any lengths - just a hello - how are you - I am so glad I took that gut feeling and called Geoff and let him know that I cared - I am not coming to the funeral and I want my last thoughts to be when we went to say good-bye - I said I'm sending you my love and he replied my love is coming right back to you - Love Betty

Our relationship with Geoff Fry began 10 years ago when our business, the Black Dog Village Pub & Bistro in Bayfield, ON., was just a year old. Geoff was a frequent customer who quickly became one of our favourites. He gently offered his services to us - novice business owners that we were then - and helped us with much-needed practical advice, financial direction and took a genuine interest in the well-being of our business. He taught us so very much in terms of properly looking after the financial side of the business and took as much pleasure as we did when we succeeded. Geoff was always there when needed and gave us caring service above and beyond. When he said, "don't worry, I'll take care of it," we breathed a sigh of relief because we knew it would be. More than this, Geoff became a good friend and one of the finest men we have known. Our sincere condolences to his family who we know will miss him greatly. Certainly we will. Geoff and I were together for over 25 years and, although our relationship was fraught with challenges, we will always be connected. Geoff gave me the greatest gift of all; 2 incredibly caring step-children and 4 beautiful grandchildren. I feel eternally blessed to have been part of his life and to see him live on in his children and grandchildren. May you be at peace.

~ Mary Wolfe

We met Geoff when he was visiting Newfoundland. My lasting memory of him is through Debbie's countless family stories so lovingly shared over the years. Brothers are irreplaceable. To Debbie and Barbie may you always hold those childhood and family memories close to your heart. To the entire family we send condolences. He was a wonderful man. Godspeed.

~ Charlotte and Stephen Jewczyk

For my cousins Brad and Christine, my mother Debbie, and my Aunt Barb... A loving memory of Uncle Geoff: I'll always remember the summer trips to Grandma and Grandpa's place in Belleville. All the grandkids, including myself, spent the whole trip in the pool. The highlight of the day was always a visit from the "bucking bronco" aka Geoff. We would all get a turn to hang on for as long as we could while the bronco, complete with life-like sound effects, tried to buck us off. I always think of Geoff as the fun and life in the room. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Geoff's family and friends. We will all miss him dearly. -Matt

To all of the Fry family, Barb and I extend our condolences on the loss of your father, grandfather and brother. His obituary speaks to the gifts he provided to all of his family and friends. You will be in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

~ Richard & Barb LeBlanc

Hi Christine, I am so sorry to hear of your Dads unexpected passing. You always had such joy on your face when you talked about him. Take care of yourself and let others take care of you.

~ Cara Hewitt

I couldn't imagine having a better big brother than Geoff. I have wonderful memories of Prince Albert, Belleville, St. Remy de Provence, Houston, among other places. With his optimism and positive attitude he gave me unconditional support during difficult times and love and caring during happy times. Geoff blessed the wedding rings for Ron and I during our wedding ceremony in Provence, France. We will always carry a bit of Geoff with us as we wear these rings. Although not here with us physically, Geoff will be in our hearts always. Much love big brother and thank you for being such a big part of my life.

~ Barb Fry & Ron Riske

Hi Christine & Brad: I had the privilege of working with Geoff for almost 20 years both in business and doing part-time work for him from home. I feel blessed to not only having been part of his life but to have had him in mine as my mentor. So, often he would say `How busy are you these days`. His way of asking if I had time for one of his `infamous little projects`. I would ask how bad it was and he would just smile and ask "how much time do you have". He could lift your spirits with his endearing smile, positive attitude and gentle soul. I saw Geoff briefly the day before and knew how tired he was. I'm thankful for having had those last few minutes. Geoff will be watching over you all; especially the grand kids whom he loved dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. We will all miss him...June

~ June Procunier

To my brother's family. God saw that he was getting tired, A cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him And whispered "Come with Me". With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer, And saw him fade away, Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes "the best". With much love from your sister Debbie

~ Deborah Fry

We were so sad to learn that you had lost your wonderful brother. Although we had never met, Deb spoke about him often and particularly during his (thankfully) brief fight with cancer after his diagnosis in May. He was selfless and brave. Our condolences to you all.

~ Gillian Butler and David McKay

Debbie and family I am sorry to hear of the loss of your brother, uncle, father ... The death of a family member takes a little piece of out hearts. I did not know Geoff but he sounds like a great guy! He is now at peace and with any luck can watch over you all and still enjoy his grandchildren. My prayers are with you. Be kind to yourselves. It sounds like there are many great memories. Janet

We met Geoff years ago when I started my own Padgett Business Services. Geoff helped me many times and I even rented office space from him while I got started. Geoff was truly devoted to his clients and I know they will miss him. We were so sorry to hear of his passing, he was a dynamo. Geoff often talked about his family and how proud he was of them. Our condolences to his family..

~ Phoebe & Reg Wilsom

Sending you our thoughts and condolences. One of my best memories with Geoff was spending the afternoon tubing at Bayfield. He took us out on the boat and spun us around and around for hours. Travis and Tim's daughter, Emily had a blast on the tube (as did Tim and I)! Geoff always took the time to ask how things were going for us, what was new, and genuinely wanted to know what we were up to. Our cat passed away on the same day as Geoff, so I feel pretty confident that Mrs. Orange will have a great friend to keep her company!

~ Todd, Krista, and Travis Loughead

working with Geoff over these past years was such a huge pleasure. He was one of those people who always brought a genuine smile with him whenever he walked through the door. He was a patient and kind, priceless qualities that cannot be measured in numbers. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. We extend our very sincere and heartfelt sympathies to Geoff's family. George Payne, Cindy, Lacey, Tigger, and Staff from Forest City Business Equipment

Dear Brad Christine and Families Good bye Co-Captain Geoff and I had the wonderful experience to share a boat together in Bayfield for a number of years---so much fun! We first met at the "Y"in London many years ago and that friendship grew to golfing, boating ,gardening stories, and the "Y" in Goderich. Geoff was such a positive friend and a great sense of humor. Condolences Greg Goudy

~ Greg Goudy

I am so very sorry for your loss Brad, Christine, and the Fry, Wolfe, & Reilly families. Geoff and I go back 20 years as he played a pivotal role in my businesses. He helped me through the best as well as the most challenging times of my professional and personal life, and I will always be thankful to have had him in my corner. Geoff had a true talent for simplifying overwhelming and complex situations and breaking them down into easy-to-manage action items. I always felt better for having spoken with him. I'm not surprised to learn his impact on others was so far-reaching. He had an innate desire to help others and never asked for anything in return. He carried himself here on earth as a guardian angel and I feel blessed and confident that he'll continue that role from above. I will miss our conversations over coffee and breakfast Geoff. Be at peace my dear friend. -Greg

I have known Geoff for a long time and he was always a class act and I enjoyed the time that I spent with him very much. He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers are with the family. When he talked about all of you , it was easy to tell that he was proud of each and every one of you.

~ Ross Douglas

I offer my deepest condolences to Christine, Brad, Mary and Geoff's extended family. I too had the privilige of being one of Geoff clients. He helped me through thick and thin, for 25 years! I can't imagine having been without him, and will certainly miss him dearly. His optimism, confidence, intelligence, and ability to communicate complex matters using simple, and straight-forward language were just some of his qualities. He was always someone I could trust implicitly. Geoff was always working, always thinking, and always caring deeply and sincerely for whatever it was he focused on. He was a blessing to me, and I'm sure to you as well. There was rarely a conversation when he didn't bring up a story about Brad, Christine and his grandkids. He was so proud of you all! May he rest in peace and may your hearts stay full of the love and goodness he so generously shared.
