Eleanor Hunniford
February 21, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce, after a long illness, the passing of Eleanor Hunniford (née Poore), on February 21, 2025, at Victoria Hospital, in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Ron Hunniford, with whom she shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. Loving mother of Mark (Brenda) Hunniford, and Sharon (Pat) Yaremko. Adored grandmother of Andrea Hunniford, Michelle (Ryan) Shaw and Alex (Alexandra Pitkin) Yaremko, and dear great-grandmother to Bradley Shaw. Sister of Eunice (late Gerald) Drake. Predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Margaret Poore and sisters Beth (late Maurice) Jamieson and Elsie (late Donald) Larkin.
Eleanor had an incredible love of family. She had the ability to go back generations and remember key familial details and events and share them with anyone interested. Her “institutional” knowledge of family will be greatly missed. From her work life to her home life, Eleanor cultivated friendships to last a lifetime. Many times, this group of friends would be at their weekly dance, or playing cards or at their bowling league. It didn’t matter as long as they were doing it together. For much of her adult life during her spare time Eleanor was a consummate knitter. She loved to knit baby outfits and sweaters for her family and anyone who was expecting a new arrival. Many of the people here today or watching on Livestream are the recipients of Eleanor’s knit creations. Be it knitting, canning, quilting or sewing, Eleanor was self-taught. Perhaps, Eleanor is most known to those outside her family as the “bunny” lady for her extensive collection of Beatrix Potter, Bunnykins, and Royal Doulton ladies. Eleanor and Ron travelled all over the North America and the UK to enhance their collection. Eleanor cared about everyone. Even on her deathbed, Eleanor was making sure everyone was fine.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Kevin Fung who took such wonderful care of Eleanor over these many years, and the physicians and staff of the Critical Care Trauma Centre at LHSC for their kindness and care.
A funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend the funeral service a livestream has been made available. To register for the livestream click: Remembering Eleanor. Interment to follow at Sylvan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly I was not able to attend Eleanor's service today but was able to follow the service online. I just need to say that I was deeply moved by the loving words for Eleanor by her family. There is no doubt that Eleanor lived a life of kindness, caring and love. It was a privilege to know her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
