Ed Shanley

October 16, 2013

“If you’re not living on the edge you’re taking up too much room.”

Ed lived the dream but sadly after a sudden struggle with cancer he passed away at home with his family at his side on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013. Ed will be missed so very much by his wife, Kathryn; son Paul, daughter-in-law Leesa, grandsons Ben and Nick; in-laws Earl and Isabella; sisters-in-law Carol (John), Teresa and Gay; niece Jodie (Paul), nephews Jeff (Tory) and Mackenzie and his great nephews and nieces. Ed will be sadly missed by his many friends, Byron United Church family and his business associates through his many years at PBL Insurance. Ed’s parents Bill and Josie and his brothers Roy, Bill and John have already made their journeys to the Kingdom of Heaven and are waiting for him with loving arms. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses at Victoria Hospital’s B-9 Ortho Trauma Ward, Palliative Pain Management Nurse Leanne, In Patient Adult Oncology Ward Nurses, VON Nurse Lyndsey, Dr. Tom Wolder and Maryann – the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery. Ed loved his sweet little Yorkies so in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the University of Guelph – OVC Pet Trust c/o Alumni House, University of Guelph, 50 Stone Road East, Guelph, ON N1G 2W1 or online (below) or the charity of your choice.

Fare thee well love.

Kathryn, Chris and I were so saddened by the news of Ed's passing. As a young couple who moved into our first house 5 years ago, it was so nice to get to know Ed and you even if it was for small moments at a time while chatting over our fences, mowing our lawns or those moments heading to and from home. You could tell after talking with Ed that he was a genuinely kind and sweet soul. Our deepest regrets go out to you and your family. Please knock on our door any time you need anything. Nancy & Chris

Will be truly missed. Ed was truly loved. A gap will always be there in our gatherings, but we will always remember Ed and our laughter together. Special friends and special bonds are our blessings and we will never forget. We love you Kathryn and will always be here. Love Cleo

Kathryn and family....our sincerest and deepest sympathies. News such as Ed's sudden passing is always so unbelieveable. Its hard to take it in. For us, Ed will always be remembered with great affection for the gentleman he was, who loved his family, loved his work and loved life; his generous smile; his kind ways. We pray you will be supported by the love of family, friends and faith to help you as you come to terms with your loss. We know that the life you shared with Ed will be filled with rich and happy memories that will in time sustain and comfort you. Marilyn & Tom Morawetz, Evergreen Farm & Garden Ltd.

It's a sad day in the farm equipment business. We will miss you Big Ed. We have dealt with Ed for many years and always felt that Ed had us covered. Sounds a bit funny but I dont feel quite as safe now, big shoes to fill. We actually looked forward to Eds visits to renew even though we knew it was going to cost us. Relationship selling at it's finest. Rest in peace Ed. W.J Heaslip ltd. and Heaslip Family

We were so saddened to learn of Ed's death and extend our sympathy to Paul and family. We fondly recall many of our times with Ed, who always had a positive and cheerful attitude about life. Through the years he became a well respected business colleague and friend of the equipment industry and we always appreciated his honest and straight forward approach. Unfortunately we are away traveling and so unable to attend the funeral, but we are with us in spirit, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

~ Doug Vincent

You leave a big hole in our hearts Ed. We thank God for giving you to us to share the good times, the laughter & you're corny jokes. You'll be sorley missed dear friend.

You will be missed ED ! "We always slept better knowing you had us covered " . Ed will be truly missed by our dealership as a business partner and as a friend . His dedication to our dealership and our association over the years will not be forgotten . Thinking of you all !! O'Neil's Farm Equipment and The Smiths

~ Craig Smith

So Sorry to hear this morning after opening my email of Ed's passing . What a great guy Ed was to all his dealers past and present , He will be saidly missed by all.

~ Rob Byers

On behalf of myself & staff at McLaren Equipment, you have our deepest sympathy. Ed & I have done business since the early 80's, he always had our best interests at heart & gave us peice of mind with proper coverages. He always had a big smile & welcome at any CEEDA event. Paul we talked just a couple of weeks ago but I had no idea of the severity, you have big shoes to fill now but I'm sure his training over the years will allow a seamless transition. For his sake it was quick but it will take you time to get past this sudden loss. Let me know if I can help in anyway. He will be missed by many but we have the happy memories.

~ Don McLaren

On behalf of all the staff at John A Burnett Ltd, our deepest sympathies to Ed's family and colleagues at Purdom Insurance. Thank you Ed for all your years of service helping equipment dealers like us. You will be missed.

~ Paul Boudreau

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with you all at this difficult time. Ed was a wonderful guy and a bit of an icon with CEEDA and the equipment industry for many, many years. We have numerous laughter filled recollections of Ed, stories of conventions long past, "Roadshow" antics that took place and the convoys we travelled together in. When I think of Ed, I think of a legacy of joie de vivre. Life may not always have been easy but he always managed to discover the joy. His laughter and smiles will be missed but the memories of them remain with us forever. God bless!
