Dr. Marcelo Kremenchutzky
October 1, 2018
Peacefully, and with his loving wife, Danine, by his side, Dr. Marcelo Kremenchutzky passed away at University Hospital on Monday, October 1st, 2018. Marcelo was the beloved husband of Danine and loving father to Emma and Noah. Dear son of Sara Buchhalter and loving brother to Eduardo (Laura), Liliana (Miguel) and Leonardo (and his late wife Sandra), and brother-in-law to Kirk. Loving son-in-law to Robert and Monica Pike. Also loved by his dear friend, Marcela Cohen; his nieces and nephews: Kaley, Natalia, Alan, Lucas, Agustina, Julian; and his extended family. Dr. Kremenchutzky was a world-renowned expert in multiple sclerosis (MS) and was involved in the care of thousands of patients and contributed important research in the field. He was also the vice-chair of the Research Ethics Board at Western. Above everything, and most dear to Marcelo, were his family and close friends. His children were, by far, his proudest accomplishments. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, he became a passionate advocate to end the stigma for non-smoking lung cancer patients, and to advocate for access to better treatment and early diagnosis. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Dr. Kremenchutzky’s memory are asked to consider Lung Cancer Canada. The family wishes to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Dr. Mark Vincent, the London Regional Cancer Program and the Stroke Unit at University Hospital.

I met Marcelo in May 2001, during my stay at London ON. Although it was only a few months, we had some unforgettable moments, with endless conversations about life and science.  It was enough time to build a deep friendship that has been maintained over the years and distance. Distance that prevented us from seeing each other more often than we would have liked With the passage of time, in our occasional encounters, my wife, Charo, met Marcelo, and later she and I met Danine. We remember very pleasantly the last time we were all together in Niagara Falls two years ago Conocà a Marcelo en Mayo de 2001, durante mi estancia en London ON. Recordamos con mucho cariño la ultima vez que estuvimos todos juntos en Niagara Falls hace dos años Dear Danine, receive our condolences and transfer our love to your children Emma and Noah From Spain with love Charo Verduga and Carlos Fernández-Viadero

Estoy muy triste , fueron muchos años de compartir el trabajo cotidiano, con su calidez y su mirada serena. Buen médico ,buen compañero y mejor persona. Mis condolencias a sus seres queridos, rezo por su descanso eterno.
Dear Danine and family, My heart-felt condolences to you. I can't imagine your loss. Your husband was my doctor at the MS Clinic. I can't tell you how sorry I am to lose this wonderful man. After every visit, I would tell my family and friends how warm and caring he is. He always took time to talk to me and answer any questions I had, no matter how small. He would actually take the time to engage me in conversation. He was patient and kind. When I saw his smiling face on The Windsor Star article, it brought a tear to my eye. I will miss him. Your children will have a wonderful legacy to remember him by. God bless you.
Dear Danine, I'm awfully sorry for your terrible loss. My heart goes out to you, Emma and Noah. I had the privilege of meeting Marcelo at a dinner party at my cousin Marcela's house last year and felt as if I had always known him - a humble, kind-hearted and extraordinary person. I was a witness to Marcela's devotion to him. He was like a beloved brother to her and her best friend. He will be greatly missed by all of us in Argentina.
Marcelo was loved by his patients and dedicated to his family. My heart goes out to all those affected by this loss. Marcelo was my long time collaborator and early mentor on all things MS related. He was a major contributor to our grant success and our research success, not to mention the training of a number of graduate and medical students. SO many lives impacted. He was one of the first physicians to recognize the role of high and ultra-high field MRI in MS diagnosis and patient monitoring and I owe much of my success in the past decade to him. He balanced work, his young family and trips to South America with seeming ease. I'm so sorry for Danine, Emma and Noah.
Dear Marcelo I miss you but I´m grateful for all the memories. It was my privilege to have you as my best friend, such a brave, caring and generous man. All my love to your dear family Danine, Emma and Noah. You all are in my thoughts.
Almost a year ago, I interviewed Marcelo for an article in The London Free Press. It was a weekend assignment, and, before I met him, I thought it would be a short, inside-the-paper story. How wrong I was. That Saturday afternoon, I spent more than a couple hours with Marcelo at his home. The time went by in a flash. We talked about his work, his illness, his beloved family and his hopes for the future. That conversation has stayed with me for a long time. He was one of the most inspiring people I have ever had a chance to write about. His story appeared on our front page the following Monday. I had calls and emails from his patients who told me what I suspected - the he was a beloved doctor, their champion. I have thought about him often over the past 10 months and hoped that he was winning his fight. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. To his family, particularly Danine, Emma and Noah, thank you for sharing Marcelo with our community. Know that he loved you all so much. He was a force of nature. He will be so missed.
I had the opportunity to work with Dr Kremenchutzky in the last two years. He was always optimistic, persistent, tireless, patient. Besides, I could count on his friendship and support whenever I needed it. His family was his driving force, his greatest inspiration. I have no words to describe how much I am sorry for such an early loss to his family. From afar, I send my best feelings and thoughts.

My heart is broken to hear of the passing of Dr. Kremenchutzky. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. As a patient of his, he will be dearly missed and words can not express how much he has meant to me. I was very lucky to know him and feel very blessed to have been his patient. He always remembered my name and would ask about my spouse during our appointment. He was a great doctor but above all he was a great man. My condolences to his family.
Dear Danine, Emma and Noah. I was sorry to learn of the passing of Marcelo. It was such a pleasure to watch him grow as both a clinician and individual throughout his career, but to also see how much this was augmented by his love of his family. He will be missed by many. Please accept Wendy's and my condolences. Mike Strong
I worked in the MS clinic with Marcelo. I was so sorry to hear of his passing and wish all of his family much strength and courage at this difficult time.

Dr. Kremenchutzky was one of the most intelligent and caring men my Wife, Frances, and I have ever met. He supported us throughout her battle with MS both as a Doctor and a caring Friend. The world has lost one of the brightest MS Researchers ever, but the legacy of his research will continue with all the bright minds he has influenced. Say hi to Frances in Heaven.

Danine ,Noah, Emma, and extended family, Marcelo was a great Husband, and Father. Also a good friend. He will be missed by many, especially his patients. He enjoyed his family and friends, and always made everyone feel welcomed when visiting at his home. I always will remember the first time I met him, in a snow storm. He came to help us shovel snow. An hour late, and all was done. We had a good laugh. He was so proud to be a DAD and did this role so well. He will be in the hearts of many. My prayers and thoughts are with you and, and your family, and Marcelo's family. God Bless.
To the family of Dr. Kremenchutzky, You must know more than I what a wonderful person he was. But as his patient for the past six years, I don't think there are words to express just how much he meant to me during the most difficult time in my life. Dr. Kremenchutzky gave a level of kindness, compassion, and expertise like no other. He made such a difference in my life, went above and beyond and he gave me my life back. I am just one of many patients he had an impact on and I am so sorry to his family and loved ones for this terrible loss. His kindness will definitely not be forgotten by this grateful patient.
Danine and Family, I would like to convey my deepest sympathy for your profound loss. Marcelo gave me my first opportunity in Research and helped further my career to ensure I had ever opportunity to succeed. Although I only saw him a few time in the last few years, mostly catch up chats riding on the elevator, the thing he spoke most about was his love for and absolute joy in you and his children. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Kremenchutzky. I had the privilege of having him as my doctor at the MS clinic for the past 18 years. His knowledge was outstanding, but his heart was immeasurable. He made me feel like he had all the time in the world for me. He truly cared about people and what they were going through. I can honestly say I know few other men that were as kindhearted and giving as this man. To find this in a Doctor, is unheard of. The MS Clinic has suffered a blow with the loss of this beautiful soul and my heart goes out to his loving family. Just wanted you to know that he made a difference to so many people in this world that you would have no idea about. I thought I would put my name to just one.
Dear Danine, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Marcelo. He was a humble man who always made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. I remember your coming to our house and Marcelo playing soccer with the boys in the backyard. It was like he was in a championship match, they all had so much fun. He so loved kids and anyone who knew you all could see the love and devotion he had for you, Emma and Noah. He will be deeply missed and in our hearts forever. Deepest sympathies to you, Emma & Noah and the entire family. Love Lisa, John, Charlie & Jackson
