It is the greatest of sadness for us all, the passing of Jim. We have such fond memories of our year in London, something that we have always cherished. It was Jim, who has given us all so much. Please pass on our sincerest condolences to Barb, she was always so kind and welcoming to us. Our hearts go out to all of you, at this extremely difficult time.

Dear Jodie, Words cannot express what a great loss this is. I had the fantastic opportunity to be able to see Dr. Roth both as a professional and through your eyes as a father. At work he was so dedicated and professional, and loved by his staff. I will miss passing him in the hallway and stopping him for updates on how you are doing (which he was always happy and proud to give!) Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We are both saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Roth. We wish to convey to you and your family our sincerest condolences. Dr.Roth played a large part in my life by releasing me from immeasurable pain in both my hands with his exceptional care and surgical skill. His love of films was a joy to him. We often talked together about films that we had viewed recently sometimes even while he was operating on my hands in the OR. Thereafter, the amazing work and personal care he provided for so many of our Mustang players was unique and invaluable. His loyal support and passion for Western football was treasured by all within the football family. What is it they say about 'the brightest stars and their short lifespan?' Jim leaves a legacy of achievement that few can match and a family that will forever be blessed by his love. Judy and I are out of Country and unable to be in attendance today and Wednesday. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Roth. I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with him as a medical student. He was a great man and educator. He will be greatly missed by many. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family that he talked about so often.

It is with great sorrow that I write these words to you. When I recently heard the news that Dr. Roth had passed away I was shocked. I couldn't believe that such a gentle soul who truly cared for everyone around him was no longer here. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends & colleagues. I've known Dr. Roth for many years as I have rheumatoid arthritis & he did many operations on my hand. Every time I went to see him he always took the time to listen to my concerns & never rushed in & out like other surgeons I've seen. We wish to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Roth and family. Like many others, I was very fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing and learning from Dr. Roth. He was an amazing mentor; he leaves behind an impressive legacy which will always be remembered.

What a loss for us all. Jim was a role model as a physician and caregiver for myself as well as many of the students we jointly taught over the years. His role and position in London will likely never be filled to the fullness Jim brought to the profession. His loss has left a void and is felt deeply by many. I always enjoyed watching Dr. Roth with his family; the way he cherished his girls and Barb so much was not something you could ignore. I first had the privilege of meeting Dr. Roth when he visited his daughter Jodie at Queens. Dr. Roth was always so kind to her friends; I have many fond memories of Barb and Dr. Roth's visits (they would always treat all of Jodie's housemates to a dinner out each time they visited); we all looked so forward to their visits. I am truly sorry for your immeasurable loss. I know your Dad will be missed greatly by so many. Dear Barb and family We were deeply saddened and shocked at the news of Jim's passing. Having played on the offensive line with Jim during our championship year in 1971, I shared with him the joy and enrichment of a band of brothers. He was one-in-a-million. As with others who have written here, we also experienced Jim's generosity of self on many occasions. He was never too busy to give his personal and professional time, interest and skill to myself and our family when we occasionally were in need. I'm so sorry to hear that Dr.Roth has passed away. He was my friend and surgeon for over the last 25 years. Over the years he's done numerous surgeries for me and improved my way of life tremendously. With having Rheumatoid Arthritis for the last 40 years Dr. Roth was always there for me in time of need. My deepest condolences to the family. Dr. Roth was a generous and excellent teacher. When I was a new resident rotating on the HULC service, he went out of his way to welcome me to ensure a good educational experience. After knowing me all of 5 minutes, he got me a locker and lent me his own surgical loupes. In the following years I observed the leadership of a man who cared about everyone on his team.

Barb, I was away on vacation overseas and when I returned I learned about the death of Jim. I am greatly saddened by it and express my condolences to you and your family. I met Jim back in Mustang Training Camp my first year at Western and always thought the most of him. He was a great guy and was what I have always called "one of the good guys". I always made a point of having a discussion with him whenever the team got together over the years, whether at Homecoming or one reunion or another. I always got some good info out of him or interesting (or hilarious) story (the Peter Quigley bicycle crash - my favourite). I remember fondly the early 80's when Dr.Roth came to Victoria Hospital after his time spent at "Duke" He worked tirelessly night and day in his early career and was eager to develop his skills with hands and upper limb. I recently had the opportunity to come under his wing as a patient at St. Joes and I still marvelled at his ability to run a very efficient clinic, a smile on his face and save some chit/ chat time. I had the opportunity and pleasure of working with Dr. Roth a few years ago to improve access to orthopedic services and was with him again last Thursday to talk about expanding the role of LHSC's orthopedic services in the region. His quiet and thoughtful leadership will be missed by many, many people.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Dr. Roth when he came to Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital once a month for outpatient clinic. It truly was an honour as an Occupational Therapist to work closely with someone with his skills and knowledge. His passion for his work was obvious. He was always professional and displayed genuine empathy for his patients. I often think fondly of those days, recalling his smile and willingness to share and teach. Dr. Roth was the champion of the medical library here at St. Joseph's - our library exists in its present form because of his leadership and the dedication of the HULC team. It is a great place for staff and students to learn the art and science of medicine and Dr. Roth led the drive to have it built and named in honour of Dr. Robert M. McFarlane, his colleague and co-founder of the HULC program. Dr. Roth was a great educator, surgeon, and colleague - we will miss him immensely.

This is really shocking sad news. I will really miss him. We say that those who die while they are asleep, are saints.

This is very sad and unexpected news indeed. I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to train at the HULC with Dr. Roth. It must be difficult to lose such a close colleague and friend so suddenly. My heart and thoughts are with Dr. Roth, his family and the HULC family.

Jimmy was a great friend and teammate. His passing saddens me greatly. My condolences to Barb and family.

Dr. Roth treated my daughter Laura with a complicated wrist break, and during the time he treated Laura , we were always so in awe of his gentle bedside manner, his knowledge and ability to communicate with non medical folks with respect and wisdom. We convey our deepest sympathy to the family.

This unexpected loss has deeply saddened all of those connected to this great surgeon. He was not only a great expert in orthopedics but a fantastic teacher to all of those who worked with him. My deepest condolences to Dr. Roths family. Dr. Roth literally saved my leg when other surgeons wanted to amputate. He then saved it again after a bout of bone poisoning. He also saved the use of my right thumb after it was crushed. I saw Dr. Roth for 3 years while mending and was always treated with care, compassion and respect. I have often thought of him over the years and was quite shocked to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful and caring doctor which I am sure was mirrored in his personal life as well. A great man who will be missed by many. RIP Dr. Roth and say hi to the angels for us.

My codolences to the family of Dr Roth. Over 20 years ago when the HULC was in its infancy in the old part of St Joes, I came there with a broken wrist from a sports injury. Dr Roth and Dr Richards said they could fix my wrist with some radical surgery. If it didn`t work my wrist would have to be fused. Whatever they did was like a miracle to me. About 6 weeks after the surgery I was able to throw a balland today I still play. What ever they was brilliant and to this day I am ad will be forever grateful to Dr Roth. He truly was a hero to me.

Thank you everyone for all of your heartfelt comments about my Dad. We are overwhelmed by all of the love and support that is being given by everyone who loved my Dad. He truly was an amazing Father and Papa and will be missed more then words can say. Life will never be the same.

My deepest condolences to the Roth family. Dr. Roth's influence and passion for the hand/wrist has helped shape my career and I truly enjoyed working with him. What started off as fear and trepidation quickly turned into respect and admiration. He was a dynamic, strong force and will be remembered fondly.

Dear Barb & Family, It is with great sadness that I have read of Jim's sudden passing. Jim's legacy as a physician will live on forever. But above this was his ability to simply be a gentleman. His unwavering ability to treat everyone to whom he interacted as equals and individuals I will always remember. Working with Dr. Roth to plan, design and then construct the new Hand & Uppper Limb Centre will be a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Dear Barb and girls, Words cannot express the deep feelings of loss that Susan and I feel at this time. Jim was "one of a kind". His desire to achieve excellence was evident in all facetts of life. He was the ultimate "team player", and his fraternity with his MUSTANG teammates (especially the Offencive Line) was unparalleled. His loyalty to us was evident when our aging bodies were in need of orthopedic repair and renewal. His help extended to our friends and family as well. The sudden loss of Jim, following the loss of Jim Allen and Enzo make us all very aware of how precious life is.
