Dear Sue and family, I was saddened to hear of Al's passing. Working with him at the Research Centre in London was a privilege and I particularly enjoyed our lunch time walks together for exercise and conversation. He loved to tell a good story and had a great sense of humour. My sincere condolences.

Dear Sue & family; We are so very sorry to hear today of Al's passing - we will certainly miss his company at the church garden & chatting with him about how we would fix the world !! He was always such a gentleman with lots of stories to share.

Dear Sue, John, Neil and families, our thoughts and sympathies are with you today and in the days ahead. We have such fond memories of catching up with Al on the deck during the summers and over appetizers during the holidays. Al was a wonderful neighbour in every sense - always willing to provide sage advice and lend a helping hand. We appreciate all that he did. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Dear Starratt Family It is so appropriate that you posted the photo of Al as I saw him almost daily during my 30+ years tenure at Ag Canada. He was invariably a man who was happy with his life. This was accompanied by a great sense of humor that brought about much laughter during our conversations. He rarely complained about anything except perhaps getting beat in poker by just a slightly better hand. I had the special opportunity to work with Al and publish several manuscripts with him, which will forever bind us. We Jews have a saying for people such as Al - we call them "mench", a person with integrity, honor and sense of purpose based on respect for others and themselves. He was a great teacher, collaborator and friend. I will miss running into him at our Christmas reunions but I will treasure my memories of knowing him. My very deep condolences to the family. George

It certainly was a surprise to learn of Al's passing. He was certainly a special person who treated all with respect and dignity and will be remembered as a real gentleman who also had a great sense of humour. I'm sad to hear of Al's passing. He was a kind and considerate person that I always looked forward to seeing and talking to. I worked in his lab at AAFC for several years and respected his honesty and integrity. I wish you comfort at this difficult time and hope wonderful memories will help sustain you through the coming years.

So very sorry and saddened to hear of Alvin's passing. I have fond memories of weekends spent visiting you both many years past. Though we have lost touch, I wanted to reach out to you and offer my deepest condolences at this time. A friend lost her husband recently and I was struck by something that she posted "We begin to remember not just that you died but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget" So true. My thoughts are with you.
