Douglas Alexander Hogg, CD
With sadness, we announce the passing of Douglas Hogg on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Parkwood Institute. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Ethel (Smith) and his daughter, Brenda (Thornton), in 2017, and also predeceased by his infant son, Frederick, his brother, John and his parents, Fred and Ellen Hogg. He will be dearly missed by his son, David (Aniko), in Kamloops B.C., his five grandchildren – Jeremy, Brian, Jennica, Michael, and Melissa; his five great-grandchildren- Jeremy Jr., Brian Jr., Sarah, Megan and Lehte; and his three great-great-grandchildren – Logan, Neveah and Hayzen. Also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Carole (Frank) Dicker, and his other close nephews, nieces, cousins and friends in Canada and the United States.
Doug, a native Londoner, attended Trafalgar Public School, Sir Adam Beck Collegiate, and the University of Toronto, where he completed a two-year course in Institutional Management. He was an overseas veteran of World War II, enlisting at the age of sixteen. He served four years in the Canadian Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) in Canada, the United States, the Aleutian Islands, Great Britain, and with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment in the Canadian Far Eastern Force. Following the War, his military career continued with the reserve army until 1968. He was a long-time member of Victory Branch 317, Royal Canadian Legion, and a founding member of the earlier, now redundant, Roosevelt Branch.
Doug was employed with the London Police Service from 1947 to 1977, retiring as Deputy Chief of Police. During his police career, he developed and introduced a performance-based competitional promotion policy, a personal performance rating system, and he encouraged the development and implementation of Ontario’s first municipal police canine section. For these accomplishments, Doug Hogg was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Doug was also employed for several years with the London Regional Office of the Worker’s Compensation Board, retiring at the age of sixty-five.
As a volunteer during his retirement years, Doug served on various Boards and Committees within the London region and at his church. He enjoyed reading with Grade One primary school students. He loved his family and friends and, with his wife, Ethel, was an enthusiastic supporter of the London Knights Hockey Club. He also enjoyed writing- publishing one book and many short stories. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Parkwood Institute – Veterans Care Unit. The family would like to thank the Parkwood Institute staff for their excellent care of Doug.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. An RCR service will be included within the funeral service.

My godfather, Doug Hogg, changed the trajectory of my life. I am forever grateful for the love and support offered by Doug and Ethel and family to my self and my mother, Josie (deceased December 2022).
My most sincere condolences to Dave and family. Treasure the memories, I am sure there are many.
My condolences to Dougs family during this sad time. He was a fine true gentleman who made a difference! Lots of great memories! Proud to have been his friend.
Our condolences to Dave and Family. The Sutherland's are thinking of you in this difficult time.
To Doug’s family we send our condolences. Doug and Ethel were our neighbors when we lived in Chesham Estates many years ago. Bob was one of LPS’ Canine Officers and Doug was very instrumental in forming that unit. We loved Ethel’s joyous appreciation of life and Doug’s calm background support. They were a great couple. We last saw Doug at a recent Canine Reunion and it was so great to chat with him. Doug was a forward thinker and a keen learner and I liked that I could email him. We send blessings to all who love this wonderful man. Sincerely, Dawn and Bob.
Doug and Ethel were our wonderful neighbours for the last 24 years …we have many wonderful memories with them, their children and grandchildren … when their house was sold last year it was an end of an era for us all …Doug and Ethel could not have been more welcoming to us and our family when we moved in across the street from them in 2001 …Doug and Ethel may you both rest in sweet peace … together once again … love Randy and Maria
