Doreen Meriel Urquhart
August 29, 2015
At 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29th, 2015, one star in the sky suddenly burned brightest to guide Doreen Meriel Urquhart who, in her 87th year, was called to a new home at God’s side. She will be forever loved and missed by her devoted husband of 65 years, George; their 5 children: Gail (Mike), Bob (Pam), Glen (Alison), Brian (Danielle) and Scott (Nancy); and her adoring 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Doreen’s kindness, generous love and her “smiling eyes” were recognized by many extended family members and good friends throughout her lifetime. It was love at first sight for George when he first met Doreen at the Silknet Plant in Toronto where she worked as a production operator. After their move to London to raise 5 children, Doreen enjoyed a short work term at Eaton’s warehouse, and then turned her love to supporting Mount Zion United Church’s children’s nursery, while also taking the opportunity to travel with George to more worldwide destinations. Doreen’s stroke in 2001 did not diminish her will for loving the chance to meet new people and travel to new destinations. Suddenly in June, Doreen was diagnosed with cancer and she spent her last time here surrounded by love from family, friends and staff at Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care Unit. The family would like to thank the LHSC and Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care staff for all the love, care and consideration they gave to Doreen and ourselves. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Doreen are asked to consider the Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
