Donald George ‘Mort’ Firth

July 7, 1929 – June 27, 2019

Surrounded by love, Don passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, 10 days shy of his 90th birthday. Beloved husband of Jean Firth. In Don’s own words, “the happiest day of my life was November 20, 1948 when I married the Queen of Port Burwell – the most wonderful woman in the world, my buddy Jeano”. Much loved father of Janeen (John) Mann, of Thunder Bay, and Stephen (Susan Sheppard), of Oakville. Adored Grampa of 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Born and raised here, Don was an extremely proud Londoner (despite his many complaints about city council). A gifted athlete, he excelled at all sports especially baseball (exceptional left-handed first baseman for the London Majors), basketball (Tech Grads), golf and curling.

Known for his storytelling, unique sense of humour and ability to connect with people, Don will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues in the electrical field. He enjoyed a 41 and a half year career with Ontario Hydro as a Lineman, Station Maintenance and Electrical Inspector. He was honoured to serve as the President of the International Inspectors Association. A few years ago, Don received his 60 year member pin from Nilestown Masonic Lodge #345.

At Don’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A casual gathering will be held at ST. GEORGE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH HALL, 227 Wharncliffe Road North, London on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. to celebrate a life well-lived. Please come prepared to share your Don “Mort” stories – we all have one!

Sincere thanks to Ted and Sheila Hunter and Bonnie Tucker for their caring support over the past few years.

Thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers of St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, for their loving, respectful and professional care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don’s memory to St. Joseph’s Hospice at >http://sjhospicelondon.com or 519-438-2102.
