Derek Leslie Barker

Unexpectedly on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at University Hospital in his 91st year.  Beloved husband of the late Nan Barker.  Loving father of Mark and David; grandfather of Alex, Trevor and Gillian. Survived by his brother Brian of England. Derek is predeceased by two brothers and one sister.  Derek had an interesting life, serving in the RAF and the Allied Control Commission.  He was an avid aviation enthusiast, learning to sailplane in Germany. He was talented in many areas, a very practical man and an avid photographer.  Derek opened Barker Art in 1975.  He retired from the store, and enjoyed cottage life at Ipperwash, where he could be found sailing his Hobie Cat, or watching and photographing the local birds.  A memorial reception to celebrate Derek’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North.

Mark Sorry to hear about your father. Tho gruff at times (can't blame him with teenagers around) I still remember when he laughed. Have to admire what he did in his life. My condolences.

I have great memories of working with Derek years ago at Ex-Cell-O Corp in London and when he worked for me at ETS Ltd. I also think of Derek whenever I look at the Robert Bateman pictures that I got from him at Barker Art. He was a good man. Roy Merkley Grand Bend Ont
