David ‘Dave’ Craven

I had the privilege of working with Dave. What a wonderful person; so welcoming, kind and intelligent. His presence and voice will be missed by many. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Sheila & Sharon, Jean & Chuck, my sincerest condolences. If there was a little Dave Craven running around the ball diamond when you were our coach, Jean, I didn't realize it. But it was truly heart-warming to learn, in later years at Union Gas, that this personable, dedicated gentleman belonged to the family I'd known at Cloverleaf, from "one road over". Any project that Dave had input into, was the better for it, for all of the reasons mentioned by many above. I so appreciated his filling in information gaps if no one else stepped up, and the wise "executive decisions" he made, and his commitment to stand behind those decisions. Nicole and family, I have never had the pleasure of meeting you, but please know you have been in my prayers, since I learned of Dave's passing.

On behalf of all the volunteers and staff at United Way - I send our sincere condolences to the whole Craven family. Dave was a light and a leader in our community. His energy, intelligence and the way he cared for others will be terribly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to work and volunteer alongside him.

I had the honor of being Dave's assistant for the last 6 years. Nicole, Laura and Rebecca though I never was fortunate to meet you, I sure felt like I know you all!! He would talk about all of you and just beam with love and pride!!! He was such a pleasure to work for, how many people actually look forward to their boss coming in every day? When he was 5 minutes late he knew I'd be worried, eventually he would let me know ahead of time if he'd be late so I wouldn't get frantic. There are no words I can offer you at this time to ease your pain, but please know he was the happiest husband and father that I knew.

I met Mr. Craven a few times over the years as he was our Director, and he was always kind to me. Deepest condolences to the family and we are all thinking of you during this difficult time.

Dear Nicole and family ... Having never met his family, I only know you through Dave who was always sharing the wonderful stories about all of you with all of us - I recall Dave telling us about the time spent in a yurt with his daughter (what a good father) and his good fortune at meeting the love of his life Nicole and enjoying his new bigger family Being just one of many people who enjoyed working with Dave I am so saddened with his passing and I extend my deepest condolences to all of you .... My deepest condolences to the family. Dave and I "grew up" together at Union Gas, starting in 1985. He was a friend, mentor and my leader twice over our careers. We also shared the same birthday and always an email on the day of. My girls the same age as Rebecca and Laura. The last time I saw Dave in our London office we talked about work, but our conversations always ended with how are the girls, what are they doing etc. He was so proud of his family. He was taken far too early. My heart breaks for the family and for our Union Gas/Enbridge family.

We are so sorry for your tragic loss. Dave was a giant among Men, a role model for fathers, the personification of class and one of the best friends anyone could ask for. Rest in Peace our good friend.

My deepest sympathy to Dave's family and close friends. I along with many, share in the disbelief and shock of Dave's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Dave over the years while at Union Gas. Dave was a good man, and I always enjoyed the work experiences and knowledge that Dave brought to any interaction. He was also good at seeking others opinions and advice, a characteristic always appreciated by his peers, his staff, and any person who he had business dealings with. My deepest condolences over the loss of Dave. I had the honour of working with Dave on specific requests. He was a down-to-earth leader who managed to pull out the best in people. His sense of humour was well known and he helped us laugh in stressful times.

I am so sorry for your loss. While I did not know Dave well, I have a particular recollection of him that still makes me smile. I was waiting in a very long line at the Colombia Warehouse when someone tapped me on the shoulder and said Hi, Michele. When I turned I was pleased that it was Dave and he knew my name and what my job was at Enbridge. I was a bit shy but within 30 seconds we were talking like we were old friends. The long wait turned into what seemed just a couple of minutes and afterwards when we bumped into each at work he always made time for a short conversation. He will be missed.

Chuck, Jean and Family: We were greatly saddened to learn of Dave's passing. Heather knew Dave from working at Union Gas and Dave was my cousin (as you know). I have fond memories of flying with Dad in his plane and landing on your family farm and being able to spend weekends swimming in your pool or boating on the lake - always enjoying my time spent with Dave. We wish we could give you big hugs right now, but this pandemic is cruel in so many ways. Becca and Laura, we can't begin to express our sorrows for the loss of your dad, our favourite Uncle Dave! We will forever miss his wild jet ski rides and funny stories. To all of Dave's family and friends ... Words can't begin to express my sincere condolences to you. Dave was one of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege of meeting, and someone that I had a tremendous amount of respect for. Whenever he came to visit our Brantford office he always wanted to know how we and our families were doing, and what was new in our lives since the last visit. When he spoke, his words were genuine. When asked how his family was his face would light up with the biggest smile - he was so very proud of you all. I remember him telling me about driving his parents to Florida and we laughed about making it a road trip for everyone. I am blessed to have had the honor of knowing him. I wish you love & strength as you deal with his passing. Memories are golden treasures.

Although I did not know Dave personally, I do know you loved him very much. When viewing your photos on Facebook, you were always so happy and you had that special glitter in your eyes. Sending love and my deepest condolences over the loss of Uncle Dave. I always looked forward to any family even knowing he would be there. Despite my best efforts, he was always the funniest guy in the room and I will really miss his laugh and quick wit. I always felt so welcomed in the family to which he played a big role. I crossed paths with Dave in different roles at Union Gas/Enbridge. He was always quick with a smile and a genuine "How are you doing?". I know he often had a lot on his plate at work, but he never made me feel rushed to get through a conversation. We would often cover the main topic, then go off on a really interesting tangent. When you were talking with him, he was focused on you. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Dave was a force in the universe and he will be very deeply missed.

Words cannot describe just how great of a guy Dave was. I was very lucky to have spent roughly 12 years working with Dave - often relying on him for expert opinion and detailed technical background. No matter how often I leaned on him, he was always there with a smile and an offer to help me further. When I think of my time with Union Gas, it is hard for Dave's face, voice and smile to not immediately come to mind. He truly represented everything and anything anyone would hope for in a colleague and friend. He was the fabric of the company and the community. The world needs more people like Dave. He was truly a very special man and I am blessed to have known him and counted him as a friend.

I've had the pleasure of knowing & working with Dave for over 20 years at Union Gas and am deeply saddened by his loss. We was a kind, caring and thoughtful person with a great sense of humor. I will miss our conversations over coffee & lunch at work and forever remember the example he set for being a warm and good-hearted person.

My sincerest condolences in your loss. We have all loss someone we respected and appreciated. I know from working with Dave that he made everyone feel important and part of the team. We will miss him!

The first time I met Dave was at a district review meeting in London where I was invited to listen in as a learning opportunity. Even though Dave wasn't my chaperone to the event, he took the time during a break to introduce himself and go over any of the questions I had. I was fortunate to have several interactions with Dave afterwards, and the outcome was always positive (albeit, the outcome of a foosball game is still in dispute). Regardless of the meeting, some more difficult than others, everyone was usually smiling/laughing after a meeting with him. Such a down-to-earth, sincere, and easy to like person.

Sending our heartfelt condolences to Dave's family. We both have so many unforgettable memories working with Dave, starting with the gangly kid with the booming voice that I first worked with nearly 34 years ago. Many Customer Care projects later, and he never failed to apply his magic blend of wisdom, pragmatism, camaraderie and wit to challenging issues. At the same time, he never ever missed the opportunity to share stories about family life...he was a supremely happy man. We miss knowing he is in this world and our hearts go out to you in this time of profound sorrow.

Nicole and family, please accept our sincere condolences. I have had the great pleasure of knowing Dave for 30 years and I know this loss is heartbreaking for you. It really is for us, too. I've known and worked with Dave for almost 30 years, and most recently I had the distinct pleasure of working directly for him for the past 3 years. We used to joke about each others names, almost from day 1. I was Jefferd Shepherd to him, and he was Daven Craven to me. He shared that in front of many people at my 25th service anniversary with the company and it brought a smile to both our faces (silly things, eh?) it just showed that he could make people laugh even with the worst Dad Jokes. Dave was so kind to me when I was on my recent medical leave. He checked in every week and we always talked about non-work related stuff just to keep it light and fun. I'll miss his mentorship, his compassion, the way he listened intently to every story, and his stories about you and the kids, he loved you all so much. And of course, I'll miss "the voice" when he turned it on. :) God bless and take care, we have truly lost a great one, far too soon.

Dave was one of the most genuine people I have ever come across in my life. I had the pleasure of knowing Dave professionally and it always felt more like a friendship rather than a working relationship....that was just Dave. From his amazing radio voice, to his vibrant personality, he was a natural leader and a truly amazing individual. I am so truly sorry to hear of his sudden passing. It pains me to know that I will never again have the pleasure of walking around a corner, bumping into him and seeing that infectious smile and shining personality which always warmed my heart.

Nicole and family, Mike and I both consider ourselves fortunate to have worked with Dave over many years and on many projects. He was unfailing in his integrity, work ethic and compassion for others - complemented by a remarkable sense of humour. He always seems to know the right thing to say......And at this unspeakable loss I wish we knew the right thing to say to comfort you. He was one of a kind and we will miss him greatly.

I miss him. Even though Dave and I weren't on the same leadership team anymore, and I didn't see him weekly like I used to for many years, we still kept in touch. He was a very supportive co-worker. Always willing to listen and to offer help to anyone, especially if it was with advice on the latest tech gadget. I will miss listening to him recount adventures in his life, from trips with his daughter, the resort bungling his surprise marriage proposal, helping catch a thief because of motion camera's in his home and his Dad selling a plane on Ebay! Most recently Dave recounted to me his trip with Nicole to Southern Italy and what an amazing time they had together. I will forever be able to hear his booming voice in my head. Dave's sudden death has left such an incredible void in so many people's lives. My deepest condolences to Nicole and all of the Craven family.

My deepest sympathies to Dave's family. I worked with Dave for many years at Union Gas and a few years at Enbridge. I will never forget our time working together in Customer Care. His dry wit and "radio" voice earned him the nickname of "Radio Dave" and gave him the ability to navigate thru many a tricky situation. His leadership and humour will be missed.

Nicole, Charlie Jean and family please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I considred Dave to be a best friend and told him that a few years back. Dave without a doubt represented the best of us. He was by far the nicest, most honest and hard working person I ever met. We became fast friends and always went out of our wayto get together to talk about the company, friends and family. He always went out of his way to help others. I remember a time when I had to leave a company meeting in the GTA Chair an evening event at the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. Dave heard about it and said 'you wont get back to the GTA until 1 the next morning, so I am going to rent a car and drive you for your own safety;. He did just that and on the way back after dozing off-Dave was driving- I woke up and saw that the gas light was blinking as we were almost out of gas. I said Dave lets get some gas. He laughted and said I want to see how far we can go without filling up! I think about Dave every day and can say without heiitation that he will be missed by everyone who knew him and the world was a much better place with Dave in it.

My deepest sympathies to the Craven family. Dave and I worked together for a short period of time early in our careers at Union. To this day I recall some of the words if wisdom he shared with me so many years ago. Gone way too soon.

I had the opportunity to work with Dave for many years on projects, negotiations, and as he and I transitioned when he took the Customer Care role when I retired. With lots of laughs, sharing experiences, and ideas to support the Customer Care team and the Union Gas organization, we travelled for weeks across the Province. It was my pleasure to have known him with his wit and absolute loyalty to everything he touched - his family, his community, and the Union Gas Company. He will be greatly missed but always remembered!

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Craven family. It's unbelievable to think Dave has passed. I often would see Dave in the cafeteria at Union Gas and get the family update on who's doing what and where they are. We would talk of our parents escapades water skiing out in Lake Erie - the ski ramps and competitions of who could ski closest to shore. Dave was an amazing soul and will be sadly missed. My sincere condolences to the entire family and those closest to Dave. Dave and I rode the drive to and from Chatham for a few years and he was the creator and the source of much laughter. For the brief times when we weren't laughing, his shared opinions and clarity of thought were always a breath of fresh air after a long day at the office. For those hours that I spent riding in the car with Dave, the eulogy text and memorial writings above all ring very true to me. Dave will be missed by me and by many.

I have had the privilege to be Minister at the Providence/Sprucedale United Churches from 1991 to 2001. I have fond memories of Dave and family participating in the life of the Church family. Laura and Rebecca were young children in the Sunday School. I remember proud Dad Dave with a great smile and personality. I certainly came to trust his sincerity, judgement , and consistent concern for his family and church community. My sympathy to you Nicole, to Laura and Rebecca, and to the entire family. I am shocked and saddened to be informed of Dave's sudden death. Such a great loss for so many. May God's strength continue to surround you in thees difficult days.

It was with deep sadness that I learned of Dave's untimely passing. Dave and I began our careers with Union Gas in Chatham a year apart, and our paths crossed numerous times over the three decades since; most recently a few years ago in London where Dave and I had offices beside one another and shared a number of late evening chats regarding work, family and life. I so enjoyed and respected his amazing humour; his wit and intelligence; and thought-provoking conversation. Through it all I came to appreciate how much we shared similar values: that it was the amazing employees who were at the core of what made Union Gas such an incredible place to work for all those years, and Dave genuinely cared about the best interests of employees, customers and community. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dave had that dry wit that was unmistakably part of his personality. My deepest condolences to the family during this time. Dave was a remarkable man who I was fortunate enough to meet, learn from and laugh with over the years at the gas company. His leadership and distinctive voice within our workplace and our community will be greatly missed.

My association with Dave and his family is linked to their time as part of the Providence/Sprucedale Church Community in Chatham. His service to his faith family was valued for his commitment, practical well thought out leadership at the board table, his positive attitude, his sense of humour and his ardent support of children's programs. When the family moved to London, truly Chatham Kent's loss was London's gain! One thing is for certain, our life was made richer for having known Dave. My sincere condolences on the very sudden loss of our dear Dave. I have had the pleasure of working with and for Dave on many occasions at Union Gas since 1985. He was always a champion for our cause and a pillar of support. He was kind, friendly, funny and always there for a kind word of encouragement and sometimes even a hug. We were saddened to hear of Dave's passing and send our sincere condolences to the Craven family. We both knew Dave for many years through Union Gas. He was friendly, kind and always had time for a chat and a laugh. He will be greatly missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to all of Dave's family and friends. My high school friendship with Dave was filled with laughter and adventures, from being locker buddies in grade 9 to motorcycle trips to Baskin-Robbins during our spares, to water-skiing and plane rides with his dad. I was lucky to stay connected over the years and enjoyed many fun pharmacy events/reunions and family get-togethers. My sincere condolences to the family. Dave and I worked together for many years. He was a cornerstone of the company's negotiation teams providing his wisdom and wit during the many days and nights that we worked through in order to finish up our deals. I always valued his opinion on various issues and his friendship. I learned so much from Dave over the years and will miss our time that we spent bouncing ideas off of each other.
