Daphne Ann Wendt (née Porter)

November 30, 2023

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Daphne Ann Wendt on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the age of 64.

Daphne loved her gardens and spent countless happy hours tending to them.  She also loved her animals and cared for the ones both in her house (Rusty, Angel and Sasha) and those outside as well.  She enjoyed interior design and couldn’t resist the pursuit of a great piece of furniture in an auction or on Kijiji.

Daphne was the beloved wife of Robert Wendt for 40 years.  Devoted daughter of June and the late Norman Porter Sr. and more recently the good friend of June and Stan Williams (deceased).  Loving sister of Eleanor Francis (Richard), Elizabeth (deceased) and Norman Jr. (deceased).  Cherished sister-in-law of Cathy (Adam) and dear niece of David (Monica).

Daphne loved each and every one of her nieces and nephews and their children. She was the proud aunt of Kevin Porter (Kim) and their two boys, Jordan and Nicholas; Melissa and her children, Ethan and Paige; Cheryl (Evan) and their children Theodore and Willow; Jennifer and her three boys Dylan, Dustin and Dawson.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the friends that have loved and supported them over the years … and also to the team at the Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care.

Daphne’s joyful, honest personality touched everyone she met. She will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Cremation has already taken place.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.

I am so very sad to hear of the passing of my dear friend Daphne who I grew up with in Ottawa. We worked at Bayshore shopping center together at Stokes and became very close friends. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding in London Ontario and actually remember when she met Bob. I could totally tell that they were mean't for each other! She had the kindest spirit, loving heart and was a true beauty inside and out. She was a great friend,a;ways down to earth and a great listener along with having a wonderful sense of humor. We had countless good times together and I will always cherish the memory of her beautiful smile, fun laughter and great heart. May you rest in peace my wonderful lifelong friend. I only wish I had been able to see you more after moving to Texas but so glad we were able to re-connect on Facebook! My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Bob and her loving family.

Dear Bob: I think I last saw Daphne at your mom's funeral. She could not have been more kind and gracious. She was a bright star and her energy will be missed I am sure. It was a privilege, albeit a sad one, to help you walk, in a small way, the journey of her passing. I look forward to seeing you again in better times. Mim

A donation has been made to Canadian Cancer Society. Message from the donator: Our thoughts and prayers are with you Bob. We could not believe the tragic news of Daphne's passing. She is such a beautiful person and they say God only takes the good. Daphne and I were battling breast cancer at pretty much the same time but we both fought and survived it. We chatted a lot during that period and she was so strong and beat it. We will miss Daphne's great smile and kindness. I was actually telling the story of Daphne giving both of our girls Courtney and Carly a large case of sample cosmetics which they had so much fun with and brought this to the cottage and when their Pa fell asleep they did up his face like a clown. This was the story I was telling my sister, and we were laughing and remembering the good times. We will miss her great smile and wonderful personality. LOVE ALWAYS CAROL, DAVID, COURTNEY AND CARLY XOXOXO
