Corneliu Popet
May 25, 2023
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Victoria Hospital, London on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Margareta Popet. Dear father of Joana Popet and Codin Popet. Cherished grandfather of Claudiu Cretu and Fabian Cretu. Corneliu had a passion for sports in his youth, especially soccer which he played semi-professionally. He worked proudly as a mechanical engineer. After his marriage to Margareta, they enjoyed travelling together, especially through Europe, the Middle East, and Canada. Corneliu was an avid reader of literature and poetry, especially Shakespeare and the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. He was often found taking long walks in the neighbourhood. Corneliu helped raise his two grandchildren and took them on many great adventures, which kept him a child at heart. He had a huge heart, and wanted to share his love with all those around him. Poetic, funny, dramatic, and romantic are only a few characteristics that would describe his personality. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 29, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, and continuing on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the London Health Sciences Foundation – Cancer Program.

Sincere condoleanțe intregii familii! Dumnezeu să-l odihnească in pace! Ne pare rău ca trebuie sa treceti prin aceasta suferinta care totdeauna e teribil de grea la despartirea de cei dragi. Dumnezeu sa va intareasca!
With sadden hearts we would like to offer you Marga and your family our most sincere condolences. We are deeply sorry for your major loss, for your suffering and turmoil in your life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your children and grandchildren, whom we met with delight on numerous occasions. We spent together many joyful events and Cornel was always one of the warmest and most dedicated friends. The door of your house was open for us at any time and it was the way we started our long and pleasant trip beside some wonderful Romanian friends in London. Cornel was beside us in sharing happy and not so happy moments we passed through; he was always keen to give a hand to any of us when needed. Many beautiful memories are connecting us along more than 20 years of good and durable friendship. We will remember him for all of these, for his open heart and his welcome smile. May the soul of Cornel be blessed by the Almighty and rest him in everlasting peace and grace.

Cornel was our good friend for 30 years and such a nice, kind and elegant gentleman; we will always remember him as a very special person in our lives. We laughed together, we partied together, we shared jokes and memories, we helped each other, we had great times together. Whenever we met, he would entertain us with words of wisdom, or a quote from some poet, or a joke and we loved him for that. He was so humble, sometimes seemed genuinely amazed that we could love him, and he showed so much appreciation for our friendship. Rest in peace, dear Cornel (‘baietelule dragalas’), may God be with your spirit in eternity, we will really miss you! Our good thoughts and prayers are with his beloved family, Marga, Ioana, Codin, Claudiu and Fabian – may God give you all the strength of happy memories from your life with Cornel.
