Colomba Snyders

July 5, 2024

Peacefully, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s, Colomba Snyders (née de Jeu), passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, in her 89th year.

Colomba is survived by her sons Richard (Donna), John, Paul, Mark (Darlene) and Andrew (Jo-Anne), along with her brothers Pieter (Gertie), Ted (Annie), Joe, Leo (Bernice), and Ernie (Jeanne).  She is also Oma to Bryanna, Tanner, Robert, Grace and Neil, and will be missed by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends.

Colomba has been welcomed into Heaven by her husband Tony, who has been waiting patiently for 16 years, along with her son Jeff, parents Johan and Maria, and siblings Jacob, John, and Nellie.

Colomba, along with her seven brothers and her sister, immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1952, led by their parents. She married Tony in 1960, and they raised their family in Lambeth, being active in various community groups in the village over the years, including Meals on Wheels and the Village Crafters. She was deeply religious and was active at St. Justin’s Parish, serving on the CWL for many years, including various executive positions.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Elmwood Place for their care of Colomba over the past three years.

Friends and family will be received at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Justin’s Parish, 855 Jalna Boulevard, London on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

I had the pleasure of knowing Colomba from the years she attended my afternoon exercise class at Parkwood. Always an active listener with a quiet smile in our group. Colomba will be remembered fondly. Condolences from the Parkwood staff and volunteers that worked with her.

~ Bill Gold (Parkwood)

I had the pleasure of getting to know Colomba while volunteering at Parkwood. Through our many chats together, I learned of her deep connection with St. Justin's church, her love of the TV show Heartland (which she would recap the past show if I hadn't seen it), and her concern for her fellow participants in the PMP program. I found Columba to be soft-spoken, a great listener, and a dear soul. She will be missed!
