Clara Helen ‘Alinê’ (née Chatelâin) Quinn
October 31, 2020
Surrounded by her family, Alinê Quinn, of London, Ontario, formerly a longtime resident of Lucan, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the age of 89. Alinê was born June 4, 1931 in Montreal to parents Henri and Gracia Chatelâin. Predeceased by her sister, Lilly; brother, Gerard; daughter, Christine; and granddaughter, Joanna. Alinê will be forever loved and treasured by John, her husband of 67 years. She is survived by her children: Maureen Mouritzen (Chris), Patrick Quinn (Xandra), Frank Quinn (Maureen), Denise Horrocks (Sam), and Greg Quinn (Debbie). Alinê was very proud of her family and cherished by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Tish, Spiro, Karrie, Jessica, Jonathan, Christian, Micheal, and Katie; and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Colin and Nora. Her grandchildren describe their grandmother as the warmest and biggest hearted of souls. “She touched all of our hearts with her enduring love, compassion and affection. We will miss her warm smile and laughter.” In earlier days, she loved to knit, making fair isle sweaters, blankets and cosy slippers for her family. When she wasn’t knitting, she enjoyed reading a good mystery novel, working on crossword puzzles, or playing scrabble or cards. Grandma was a fabulous home cook. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, we were very fortunate to share many of her French Canadian dishes, especially her Pâté Chinois and Tourtière pie at Christmas time. Grandma will be fondly remembered by the song she sang to us: “Que Sera, Sera”. We adored her and she will be profoundly missed. She left an indelible mark on all of us and will be forever in our hearts.
Jusqu’à ce que nous nous revoyions!
A private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Parish, Lucan on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish to attend, interment to follow at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church Cemetery (located beside the church). A Celebration of Life will be planned on a future date. A poem for mom The Alive Ones By Caitlin Johnstone The opposite of life is not death. The opposite of life is habit. One who moves from cradle to grave in the flip book illusion we call time without deeply attending to this cavalcade of miracles is one who never lived. Lifeless are they who live by habit, who walk by habit, who sit by habit, who see by habit, who think by habit, who feel by habit. Lifeless are they who drift through on dead patterns instead of giving the omnipresent Holiness its due reverence. The alive ones meet each moment like a dog greets its master at the door after work. They do not think: they wonder. They do not watch: they marvel. They do not walk: they adventure. They do not sit: they engage. They do not wait: they worship. Awe was never meant to be exceptional. Awe is the only sane response to this mess. The alive ones know this. The alive ones live this. The mundane does not exist for them. The ordinary is a fairy tale told by the lifeless to which the alive listen with rapt fasciation. They take in breath with the passion of a lover in bed. They entertain light in their retinas like a beloved guest. They merrily lose every war with the world. They dance without music in the frozen food aisle. They go out into the rain with bare feet and empty wine glasses. They greet every experience with exuberant curiosity, and as death approaches it receives that same greeting. And when they are gone those they leave behind will be saddened but fulfilled, and so very grateful, to have known one who truly showed up here.

Dearest Maureen, I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I cannot imagine what you must be feeling right now, especially with all the visitation restrictions at the hospital, but I want you to know that I am just a phone call away. My heartfelt condolences, your friend, Nathalie
