Claire Ohnmacht
January 9, 2018
Sadly on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018, in her 84th year at Victoria Hospital, London, Claire passed away with her daughter Laurie by her side. Beloved wife of the late John Ohnmacht. Loving mother of Laurie Johnston and her husband Steve. Survived by sisters, Anne Audet-Giroux and husband Marc Yvain and Rosemary Kuhnigk and husband Achim, from Welland, Ontario. Predeceased by siblings Gordon, Jim and Gwen. Claire was born in Earlton, Ontario. She was an accomplished piano player and earlier in her life managed a music school and taught piano. Claire loved music! She loved to dance and had a wonderful flair for decorating and fashion. Claire had a smile that would light up a room and a personality and spirit that was gentle, kind and generous. She enjoyed attending the Adult Day Program at Dearness in London. Claire especially enjoyed joining Laurie on bus tours and was always the proud mom! She courageously endured many health issues towards the end of her life. Claire was brave, accepting and a true hero. Rest in peace my sweet Dublin. Many thanks for the exceptional care from the doctors, nurses and PSW’s at Victoria and Parkwood Hospitals and also to the staff at the Dearness Adult Day Program. A special thanks to Dr. Elepano and her staff for their exceptional care and support throughout the years. A celebration of Claire’s life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Sunday, January 21st, 2018 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. A special tribute for Claire will be held at 2:30 p.m. A private family service and memorial will be held in Welland, Ontario at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Claire are asked to consider the Dearness Adult Day Program in London.
