Carol Marie Beattie (née Henderson)
May 1, 1928 - December 8, 2024
Carol died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in London, Ontario in her 97th year. Beloved wife of Robert Gray Beattie during their 38 years of marriage, until his death in 1992. Loving mother of Robert William Beattie (Rosemary) of Toronto, Jane Leslie King (Ron) of London, and Ann Marie Patton of Winnipeg, and the proud grandmother of seven grandsons: Robert Graham Beattie, Ian William Beattie, Justin Ray King, Scott Leslie King, Mark David Patton, Thomas Michael Patton, and Andrew John Patton. Great-grandmother to Mila King, Jersey Dawn Patton, Bryer Hayes Patton, and Winnie Margaret Patton. Predeceased by her parents, William and Marie Henderson and her brothers William Wallace Henderson of Ottawa and Donald James Henderson of Toronto. Loved by her many nephews and nieces and by her godson, Christopher Henderson.
Carol was born in Copper Cliff, Ontario. She attended public schools in Copper Cliff and Sudbury, Branksome Hall in Toronto, Ontario Ladies’ College in Whitby, and Victoria College at the University of Toronto. As an adult, she lived in Port Colborne, Copper Cliff, Toronto, Collingwood, and London, all in Ontario.
Throughout her long life, she was sustained by her quiet faith and her strong and independent character. She was a faithful member of the United Church of Canada, serving in many capacities, including as chair of Simcoe Presbytery and as president of a UCW group in London, and becoming an honorary lifetime member of the UCW.
Carol was a northerner at heart. She enjoyed the outdoors; summers spent with her husband on their boat on Georgian Bay and at the cottage that they built at Windfall Lake on Manitoulin Island were some of the happiest times of her life.
Carol was beloved and respected by all who knew her for her intelligence, her lively sense of humour, and her gentle strength. She loved life, she loved people, and she was devoted above all things to her family.
A funeral service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Stayner Union Cemetery in Stayner, Ontario.
