Carol Lynne Head

March 8, 2021

1939 – 2021

Following a courageous 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Carol peacefully passed away on Monday, March 8th, 2021, at the age of 81. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert Colin. Loving mother of Stephen, of Guelph; Gordon (Milena), of Ancaster; and Donald (Carrie), of Oakville. Carol was the adored Nana of Megan and Evan. She was the daughter of Lois (née Johnstone) and Allan Jacques. She is survived by her brothers Allan (Geri) and Doug (Anna Sipos); nephew Matthew (Anne); and niece, Heather.

A beloved elementary school and piano teacher for over 30 years, she inspired the passion for music among a countless number of students. Carol was raised in Nepean, Ontario, and was a Class of 1961 graduate from the Toronto University Faculty of Music. After teaching for the Thames Valley District School Board, her passion for music continued as she balanced raising a family while teaching piano to hundreds of students. She was an avid fan of figure skating, supported her children’s competitive swimming, and always took the scenic route to learn or discover something new, to meet new people, or to enjoy the beauty of the journey. Later in life, she rediscovered the thrill and challenge of learning a new instrument and thoroughly enjoyed playing in the New Horizons Band. Her never-ending commitment to forge strong relationships and be an active member of the community enabled her to have a solid foundation of support from neighbours as her health declined. A special thank you to the Fiddlers Green community, Dr. M. Elia, White Wings, and St. Joseph’s Hospice. The family will forever be in your debt.

A small memorial service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Registration is required to attend the service. A livestream of the service will also be provided for those wishing to view remotely.

We are thinking of you at this difficult time and remembering Carol fondly from London swimming and the Masters swim team.

My condolences to all Carol's family. My last communication with Carol was just prior to her entering hospice. We originally lost track of each other when we both moved in different directions in 1961 but then caught up as loyal penpals years later. During the long days of COVID, I developed my private "Rock Star Hall of Fame" and Carol was the first on my list for having shown strength, a sense of humor and fortitude in the face of adversity. She demonstrated dedication to family, friends, community and the arts and will always be my inspiration.

I only found out today that Carol had succumbed to her cancer two months ago. We had last exchanged e-mails in late January when she was showing off her new "grand-pup". We first met online through a shared interest in figure skating and the Minto Skating Club here in Ottawa. We finally met in person when the World Championships were held in London and have maintained contact since then from a distance. My sincere condolences to the family - I know how proud she was of all of you. May her memory be a blessing to you and to all her friends.

It's been 10 years since we met for our 50th class reunion. I'm thankful for those memories and those of the summer of 1959 when I lived with Carol and her family in Ottawa before we returned to school to begin our second year together. She recently sent me a picture taken together at that time. She kept me connected with so many cherished memories.

Stephen, Gordon, Donald, Did you know that Roland first met your Mom in the nursery of Ottawa Civic Hospital -- 81 years ago, last July! Did you know that your Mom spent her 32nd birthday watching David while our daughter, Heather, was being born. Roland and I are grateful for your Mom's patience and the musical encouragement which she gave our female children -- particularly Lauren. We are all grateful for her introducing our family to Figure Skating. Lauren would come home from a lesson with a figure skating magazine tucked in with her music books. My granddaughter, Victoria a figure skater, is guardian of your Mom's collection of figure skating magazines, a history of figure skating from before she was even born. She wanted you to know that she has, since receiving your Mom's magazines, subscribed to a 3 yr. current subscription. Toward the end of the Service on Saturday, my daughter Debbie who was also watching on line. drew my attention to a cardinal in a bush outside our window! We felt very near to Carol!

Our heartfelt sympathy to Carol's family and all who knew and loved her. She was a good neighbour and friend who always showed a genuine interest in our lives, especially the kids and our new puppy. Her joie de vivre and kind heart will be truly missed in our condo community. Rest In Peace Carol and thank you for your friendship. ❤️

I am so privileged to have spent some awesome music making and social events with Carol since meeting her in the Western New Horizon Band five years ago. She was always a spark of quips and queries in the groups punctuated by elaborate and comical emails about family, friends and events. I will miss her sense of humour and generous kind nature, as well as our chats of mutual acquaintances. Now much of Carol's music is nestled both in my piano bench and in her lovely custom made music cabinet. Carol said, we need to keep this music going! That, we will do. You have touched many souls, Carol, and I am sure will continue to do so. Sincerely, Nancy Grady

I'm so grateful for the wonderful conversations I had with Carol about music and music education. It was also lovely to talk with her about her husband Bob. She will be greatly missed by all her New Horizons friends.

~ Eric C Heidenheim

My deepest Condolences. I had the pleasure of playing French Horn with Carol in the New Horizons Band. She was so full of energy and had such a passion for her family and for her music. I will miss her dearly.

~ Rhonda McCutcheon

Steve, Gord, Don So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom was always so outgoing, friendly and encouraging. It was great to see her a couple of years ago at the Banting Graduation and have a chance to catch up. take care

~ Charlie Smith

I remember we three Parsons' kids with the three Head boys and our years of happy memories hanging out at music camp. Your mom was so full of life and jollyness. I don't know another adult who smiled as much as your mom did. She had such a zest for living and finding new passions. She always let everyone know what she thought about things and I admired that strength and tenacity in her. My thoughts are with you all during this sad time. She reminds me of Jupiter, in Gustav Holst's The Planets. I will play that and think of her. There are people in the world that shine brightly from within and your mom was one of those. Much love to you three and your families. Andrea Parsons
