Aunts are a wonderful combination of a mother, a sister, and a friend. As a child, they are full of fun activities and special treats. It was especially fun to spend the night, go to movies and play games. As an adult she becomes your sister-friend; and you now get to spend adult time together. I have the distinct honor of feeling that Carol and Elaine are like the sisters I never had. My Aunt Carol was the middle of the three Sisters in every photo of the whole extended family together always the "Three Sisters" photo was the hallmark of the celebration. So many memories-- and photos, we have to recall these special times. And Carol knew what to do with photos her photo memory books will warms the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and sisters-- for years to come I have the special honor of being able to say, that other than Carol's parents and sisters, I have known her the longest. I am six years older than the next cousin who is also my brother Mark. In our family cousins were just another version of more brothers and sisters. Because our mothers were so close, this gave us the chance to all grow up together. I don't know of many other families that spent so much time together; celebrating holidays and birthdays--all in one house! There were also summer vacations camping on a beach, or all together in one cottage at Grand Bend. During all these times together, my fondest memory is of love and laughter. Lots of laughter! Also a unique family trait we possess is of everyone talking at the same time, and most everyone can follow along this family trait confounds outsiders for sure. Our holiday celebrations were almost always held at my Aunt Carols' house. Tables end to end--to accommodate everyone, plus a "kids table" down stairs as the families grew. As the firstborn child of the three sisters, I was "senior" member of the "cousin-crew" and I had the supreme honor of being the boss of the kids table for holiday meals. Since being bossy comes naturally I cherished this position and I also had the privilege of being "promoted" to the adult table first. This made my brother, Mark-- the new "boss" of the kids table, but more importantly--I felt like an adult, by being granted space with all my Aunts and Uncles, Parents and Grandparents. As a child visiting my Aunt Carols house I always knew there would be lots of good food and snacks. My favorite one was potato chips and creamy onion chip-dip. I am pretty sure I never had this so available at home but at Carol's, it was all you could eat! It just always felt like a party when we visited. Carol was so creative and artistic, a prolific writer, a great mother and a cherished Grandmother. I think of all things, being a Grandmother was her favourite.* (*Canadian spelling ;-D) She will be missed by so many who loved her but her love will carry on in our hearts. We will talk about her often, and laugh--remembering how she loved a good laugh or a funny hat! She wanted to be remembered with laughter of this I am sure. A Poem in Memory of my Aunt Carol In God's kingdom she can now rest, While those left behind do their best... To cherish our memories of the love she gave, And sometimes just do our best to be brave. Although we are sad I was her niece! I know that my Aunt Carol, is now resting in peace ~Lovingly submitted by Susan McCall
