Carl Erick Albert Erickson

March 1, 2018

A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Carl passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Violet, and children: Steve (Elda) of Delta, BC; Gerri (Allan) of Chilliwack, BC; Charlene (Mike) of Ferndale, WA; Mark (Kathy) of New Westminster, BC; Laurel (Ted) of Waterloo, ON; and Brent of London, ON. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Loving brother of Laurence (Marg), Gerald (Nadine), Lorraine (Ben) and Dan (Marilyn). He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by wife Doreen (Arbuckle) and 10 brothers and sisters. Carl led a full and interesting life. He was a WWII veteran, retiring from the RCAF after 33 years of service in Trenton, ON and Comox, BC. Afterwards, Carl followed one of his dreams and opened Erick’s Ice Cream Parlour in Courtenay, BC. In 1999, after the passing of Doreen, Carl relocated to London, ON to reconnect with old friends and marry Violet. Throughout his life and his many involvements, he touched many lives. His quick sense of humour, laughter, love and smiles will be sadly missed by all. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. The family would like to thank the staff at University Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a charity of your choice in Carl’s memory.

I was able to share some special memories of my Uncle Carl at his last 90th Birthday party through Gerri, who arranged it to happen. What a thrill it would have been to hear all the stories personally! I know it meant a lot to him. Uncle Carl will be missed by all who were fortunate to be exposed to his warm heart and quick, witty sense of humour. Condolences and prayers are sent to all of his family, friends and loved ones. Rest In Peace, Uncle Carl. Your niece, Valerie Carlsen ( Late sister, Helen's daughter)

I and my friend Margaret send our love, prayers and condolences to my brother Carl's wife Violet and his children, grand children and all his loved ones! For me; Carl was the 14 year old brother in 1941 on the Homestead that took me into town for first time at age 7 and the 18 year old brother that came home to Big River SK on "Army Leave" in 1944 (near end of WW2) wearing very proudly his New Paratrooper Wings on his chest and the distinct Maroon Beret on his head! We were all very impressed and proud of him which later led me to apply for and graduate from the RCAF Para-Rescue Course at the Air Base in Trenton ONT Aug 1961 where Carl was selected to be a member of the Honour Guard for our course graduation "Wings Parade" ! Which made us both very proud! His dear wife Doreen recorded the event on her 8mm movie camera! I had the pleasure of meeting Carl's new wife Violet at the Erickson family reunion in 2000 near Kelowna BC and over the many years brother Carl and his loving family have played a very important role in our lives and he will be greatly and sadly missed!!! Rest in Peace dear brother Carl
