Cameron ‘Cam’ Gorrie
May 8, 1986 - March 31, 2022
It is with absolutely the most profound sorrow we have ever felt that Lynda, Rob, Jenica and Breanna announce the sudden and unexpected loss of our much loved son and brother at his home on Thursday March 31, 2022. Our world is shattered.
Cameron arrived in this world nine weeks early and left it decades too soon. He was only 35 years old. As a baby he was perfect. He was sensitive and caring, even at a very young age. When he learned how to crawl, he didn’t like the feel of the grass so he developed a bear crawl instead. He didn’t like getting his hands dirty and would do anything to avoid touching the pumpkin pulp in his Halloween pumpkin. He was so excited to be a big brother and was the best big brother there ever was. He had the biggest mischievous smile and loved playing pranks and pestering his sisters.
Cameron’s love of music began at an early age, and he grew into a talented pianist and organist. He played the piano and organ for services at Hyatt Ave United Church, sang in the school, church and the All City Choir, and played the violin in the school orchestra.
He attended Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers at All Saints Church and followed the Scouting motto…Be Prepared. Because of his involvement he has long lasting friendships with Darren, Patrick and Jason.
Cameron found peace being outdoors and could often be found camping, fishing, hunting, or around a campfire. He never turned down a chance to work with his dad, uncle and cousins on the Crinklaw farm – tapping trees, chopping wood or doing any chore that needed to be done. He learned so much working and building with his dad and had a fascination with how things worked.
He was an avid Leafs and Jays fan, trying to never miss a game on TV, but being in attendance for one was always extra special. He took great pride in his Tim Hortons hockey pool picks and comparing them with his mom. He enjoyed spending time with his friends playing baseball and dodgeball.
If we can say one thing about Cameron is that he loved fiercely and with his whole heart. He knew when someone needed a hug or cheering up. He was able to find humour in any situation and lighten the mood. He was constantly helping someone, be that an acquaintance, a friend, a coworker, a family member or a complete stranger. When he wasn’t at work, he was busy helping others build, renovate, repair or clean up various projects. He was often invited to help out, but more often than not he would hear about someone needing help and he would show up with tools in hand ready to pitch in.
Cameron adored kids and they all loved him. He had such a special way with them. He would run through sprinklers, read bedtime stories, and play piano “duets” with them. He was so excited to be an uncle to Rosalie and Smokey Peat.
Cameron was known to many people far and wide through long friendships and his work at Stantec as a Professional Civil Engineer and Senior Project Manager. He began his career while still in high school by volunteering at Stantec in grade 10, which led to summer intern work in 2003. Cameron obtained his degree at The University of Western Ontario and became a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He joined Stantec fulltime in 2008 and his work brought him great joy managing many projects. He was currently working on the decommissioning of Springbank Dam and the West London Dyke so if you are ever driving by Labatt Park and look down at the river, please remember Cameron as you see the long expanse of the new dyke that is protecting area residents from flooding. Cameron brought together the Stantec family with his involvement on the social committee, planning Christmas parties, barbeques and picnics, even including his mom to help. She loved spending time with him, always. Bringing people together and having fun was important to him…as was taking many pictures!
Cameron is survived by his parents Rob and Lynda, sisters Jenica and Breanna, brothers-in-law Stephen and Matt, and his niece Rosalie. He is already missed by his constant companion, Fisher cat. He is also survived by his grandparents Ken and Pat Lockrey; aunts and uncles, Gail Copeland, Dave Copeland, Elaine Lockrey, Kim and Tim Flinn, Leanne and Joe Ripepi, Jack and Carol Gorrie, Carol and Mark Crinklaw, Jan and Terry Elligsen, Bryan Gorrie and many, many cousins. Sharing in our grief are his countless dear friends including Darren and Court, and Kelly.
Cameron is predeceased by his grandparents Gord and Marion Gorrie, Marjorie Lockrey, Uncle Glenn Gorrie, Penny Jackson, Aunt Pam Gorrie, cousin Brandon Gorrie and niece Bethany.
Our family wants to thank Cameron’s neighbours Ryan and Kendra for coming to his aid and staying by his side, and to the paramedics who worked so hard to try to bring him back to us.
Visitation will be held on Sunday April 10, 2022 at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. A livestream link to the funeral service will be provided for those wishing to view remotely. A donation has been made. Message from the donator: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Having worked with him for close to 19 years, it was clear that this was a very special person who was just always willing to help others no matter what the situation was. He was a hard worker and a dedicated engineer, but what really set Cameron apart was that added effort to make things better for others. This was an attribute that definitely crossed over from his personal life and into his professional career and we were all so lucky for it. This is such a great loss, but I'm so appreciative of having crossed paths with Cameron in my life. He may be gone, but he'll never be forgotten. - Nelson and Stephanie

We remember him as such a kind and polite young man, always with a big smile on his face. Sincere condolences to you Rob, Lynda and family at this difficult time.
A donation has been made to El Sistema Aeolian. Message from the donator: It was very sad to hear of Cameron’s much too early passing. I had known Cameron since he started his engineering career (in Grade 10! – probably still a world record). Aside from Cameron’s great traits as a person, he was one of the most dedicated people I have come across in my almost 30-year engineering career. When I (John) was managing the Stantec Water team in London, I remember putting in a full day of work and leaving the office between 6-7PM on some work nights. Cameron would still be working away and despite my threats to release a rabid racoon into the office to chase him out, he would stay until the job was done. We may have lost Cameron but I am sure that Heaven has now gained someone to organize trips to Blue Jays games (he may also provide inspiration for a World Series run as I am sure that he will know the right people up there!). The world is a poorer place without Cameron but knowing him definitely made it better and he will continue to provide us all with inspiration. Condolences from all of the Tyrrell family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Our heartfelt condolences Lyn, Robert and the rest of your families. Cameron was a blessing.

A donation has been made to Gift of Music El Sistema Program. Message from the donator: I met Cam via Dave Williams when I coached Dave in hockey. My first impression was “ here is a nice young man, very polite.” He would join the hockey guys for games and weekends and I would be there as well. We always enjoyed our conversations and were never at a loss for something to talk about. Best memory was my son Devin’s Stag weekend; there were 12 guys in total with your typical guy stuff and a day of fishing. Saturday night we ran out of firewood so Cam and I set off in search of something to burn. Not far from the cottage someone had removed an old fence and placed it at the end of the road. We carried it back to the fire pit, Cam then starting telling everyone that Coach tore down someone’s fence and they believed him!! After an hour or so we told the truth but did we ever have a blast at the fire and this is when Cam and I became Fire Buddies. I will always think of Cam when sitting at a fire and when I’m at a Knights game as he would often stop by for a visit. This is truly a loss to anyone who knew him, such a young age, he will be missed by many. I felt honoured to have met him and to call him my Fire Buddy. Scott and Erin
Dearest Rob, Lynda and family please accept my heartfelt condolences. There are no words to express my sympathies, just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Cam will also be with you in your heart. Sincerely Sharon Dale
