Bruce Arthur Hutchinson

February 9, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Arthur Hutchinson on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022, in his 88th year. He died peacefully at Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna, British Columbia, following an extraordinary visit with his wife and two daughters. A pillar to many, Bruce leaves behind his devoted wife Ann (Heath) of 62 years, and daughters Heather (Tim) Simard and Valerie (George) Gilvesy. He is also survived by grandchildren John (Alexandra) Lind, Kendra, Jake, Scout, Grant and Adrienne (Erin). He had the opportunity to meet his newest “little doll” with the visit of Annie Rae Lind, prior to his passing. Bruce also leaves behind his sister-in-law Lynn (John) Graham and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Agnes Hutchinson, and his sister Beatrice Arnold. Bruce was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 19, 1934, and he settled with his family in the Mount Brydges area. He attended the Western Ontario Agricultural School (Ridgetown College), graduating in 1955 while specializing in animal husbandry. Bruce returned to farm in Caradoc Township. A dedicated farmer, he excelled in the growing of crops and showing of cattle, where he became recognized as an international preeminent champion and breeder of fullblood Limousin cattle. In his retirement, Bruce pursued a lifelong desire to live in the mountains and near the water, hence why they moved to Kelowna, British Columbia in 2005. He could constantly be found seeking solace in the view from his terrace while admiring the best of what the world can offer. Bruce served his community as he was elected Councilor and Reeve of Caradoc Township for several years. While being dedicated to his professional life, nothing gave him more pleasure than his family. He was a loving husband to Ann and a consummate father to their two wonderful daughters. Time with “his girls” was always his top priority. Bruce provided them with a lifetime of love and guidance that will always be remembered. Nothing could match a Sunday road trip to crop tour and check on the cattle. Bruce was a truly exceptional person with a talent for details while displaying kindness, gentleness and patience. His stewardship of the land and his care for animals set the bar high for all of us. A wonderfully warm gentleman, who has left this world a much better place. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Bystrom, Dr. E. Okorie and the nursing staff at Sun Pointe Village for their attentive and compassionate care. Funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Proof of double vaccination is required to attend. Interment at Mount Brydges Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bruce are asked to consider a donation through Westview Funeral Chapel to Ridgetown District Agricultural Society, or online for the Central Okanagan Association for Cardiac Health (C.O.A.C.H.).

“Mr. Hutchinson” was always a very kind man. His quiet way and smile was always heartwarming and we loved going to the farms for a visit.
