Bonnita Marlene McKay

March 15, 2023

It is with a heavy heart we announce the devastating and sudden loss of Bonnie at her home in London, Ontario on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at age 74. Born and lovingly raised in Peterborough by her late parents Harry and Marie Green. At age 17 she met Glen, and they have been together and in love every day since. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Cherished mother of Michael (Joanne) of Chelsea, Quebec; Mathew (Caileigh) of London, Ontario; and Paul (Donna) Adamek of Kanata, Ontario. Proud grandmother of Dylan, Vaughn, and new baby Finlay. Missed by sister Sharon (Bob) Kent. Bonnie was also supported and very loved by Glen’s family. Predeceased by her in-laws John and Mildred, Wayne (Earla), and young Kevin. Survived by Gary (Lucine) and Janice (Bob). Bonnie was a caring soul, and she was loved by nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Bonnie’s early career days started as family studies teacher for 13 years in Peterborough. After moving to London, she worked for the Rent Review Hearing Board, and finally as manager of FMP Financial Group. Bonnie had a great sense of humor and the best laugh. She was passionate about her boys, her two favorite dogs Duffy (a westie) and Ben (a golden retriever), and golf. As a parent, Bonnie was fortunate to share with her family the great joys of travelling, including ski trips and travel throughout Canada, the USA including Hawaii, and Europe which provided great family memories. Bonnie’s most passionate sport was golf, and she may have watched every shot Tiger hit. She won the senior ladies championships at Wyndance and Greenhills Golf Clubs. As a couple, Bonnie and Glen must have played over a 1000 rounds together, and Bonnie even let Glen win once in awhile. Ultimately, Bonnie’s biggest passion was reserved for ALL her boys. She cared for them, encouraged them, cheered them on, and loved them. Importantly, she KNEW that her boys loved her back. She was a special wife and mom that we will never forget.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Bonnie’s golf group, in particular Marilyn and Connie for always keeping your eyes out to find her yellow golf ball. Bonnie enjoyed your group so much. Thank-you also to Dr. Hooper and St Joseph’s Ivey Clinic for your tenderness and special care.

A private family service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Westview Funeral Chapel in London, Ontario. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bonnie are asked to consider Monica Place (www.monicaplace.ca) or the Ivey Eye Institute at St Joseph’s Health Care London.

Although I only met Bonnie a handful of times, her welcoming personality certainly made an impact on me. She was a force to be reckoned with and nothing seemed to hold her down. When you spoke, she truly listened which was appreciated in this "it's all about me" new age. Her sincere acceptance and genuine care and curiosity will be sorely missed. A great lady forever to be sure.

Dear Glen & Family: We felt such sadness when informed of Bonnie's death. Such a delightful person with an infectious laugh. Our best memories were created after our nine holes on the patio for lunch. Bonnie was so proud of her family, especially the boys, and we knew how much she loved them all. I feel blessed that I had a chance to know her and will cherish the memories. May you find some comfort knowing that we all share your grief - she will be missed. Shirley (Ross)
