Barbara Ann (née Bastien) Kennedy

July 8, 2019

Peacefully, surrounded by family at Chelsey Park LTC Home, on Monday, July 8, 2019, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late Fred Kennedy (1993). Loving mother of Michael Kennedy (Jane) and Barbara Thomas (Michael). Cherished Grandma of Mike Kennedy (Laura), Brooke Sharrard (Matt), Sean Thomas (Nina), Jennifer Farnell (Nick), Christopher Lomon (Laurie) and Kim Camenzuli (Tony). Proud Great-grandma of Sam, Charlie, Maddie, Evelyn, Abbie, Ruby, Grace, Matthew and Sarah. Predeceased by her daughter, Frances Lomon (Ross) and her sisters, Rita Leslie and Frances Porter. A special ‘thank you’ to Ellen Robson for her kind and loving care of Mom for the past three years. Barb and Fred started their journey in grade two and married in 1941. They moved to London and became pillars in the Catholic Central High School community. Through it all, Barb never lost her sense of humour, her love of animals, her zest for life and all things chocolate. The family would also like to thank the staff at Chelsey Park for their care and compassion. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Barbara are asked to consider the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario or any animal charity of their choice.

As a member of the Catholic Central High Family, I knew the Kennedy Family. Wonderful memories of those days that the Kennedy Family made so special.

Catholic Central, Our Lady of London Camp, your home on Wavell Street . . . wonderful memories too numerous to count. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy had such an influence on so many young lives. Now, as old as we are, we still carry them in our hearts. Barb, Mike and family, I send my sincere condolences. I pray that your mom, mother in law, grandma and great grandmother now be reunited with her dear husband and daughter, Fran, and Our Lord in heaven. May you find peace knowing she is now at rest. Cherish your memories.

Mike and Family Sorry for your loss of your Mother

~ Len Swales

Mike, Mike junior, Brooke; My sincerest condolences on your loss of a cherished mother and grandparent. The Kennedy matriarch has passed away but the rich legacy that she has left will be a source of inspiration for her children and grandchildren. I hold fond memories of Barbara and Fred from my early years at Catholic Central. May she rest in peace after a life well lived.

I loved Aunt Barbara and Uncle Fred and their frequent invitations to spend time with them on Wavel. Young Barbara Ann and I are great friends and would have good times playing spoons, buying candy with her $5., eating it on Gram Bastien's clean white sheets, not being hungry for breakfast, watching wrestling at G and G Kennedys, taking the tunnel bus together to Detroit with no ID at a young age (too embarrassing to tell you how old we were). pranks at Uncle Jack's cottage, shopping downtown to name a few. Aunt Barb said "If you don't like dogs, there is something wrong with you." I loved her constant sense of humour and giggle. It was great when Anne and Mary went away to Our Lady of London camp. Finally, peace and quiet. I know for sure that I will see her in Heaven, if I am a good girl. Love and Deepest Sympathy to all of you, Margaret.

Just a small note to let Mike, Mike Jr, Brooke, and the Kennedy family know that our prayers and thoughts are with you. When I was at CCH Mr. Ken was my idol for so many reasons, but as I grew older, I quickly found out that next to a great man is a great lady. Whenever I found myself at the main office I could always trust your mom/ grandmother to help with the kindest smile. thank-you to Mrs Kennedy.

I was sorry to learn of Mrs. Kennedy's death. She had a long, full life. May she rest in peace. My sincere sympathies to the Kennedy family. Pat O'Brien, M.P.(Ret.)
