Attje Compton
January 11, 2018
Heaven has a new angel today. It is with profound sadness, that Gordon Compton, his daughters, Linda, Sandi & Debbie, their husbands, Gord, Paul and Jeff, their 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren announce the passing of the family rock, Atty Compton (née Bouma) peacefully Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Chelsey Park. She was met in heaven by her loving daughter, Carla, her mother Katerina, her father Geert, her sister Tryntje and her brother Tjalke. Survived by her brother Geert, his wife Tinie and a large loving family here and in Holland. Theirs was a true love story, together until the end, they met in Sneek, Holland in 1944. Gord, a Canadian soldier, Atty, a survivor of WWII. They fell in love over a movie (with her family between them) and a shared stick of gum. Just shy of their 72nd wedding anniversary, they led a life full of family, travel and time at Paul Bunyan camp in Bayfield. Their fondest memories always involve their grand and great-grandchildren, trips to Niagara Falls, Cedar Point, Florida and back to Atty’s homeland and time with the Dutch family in Holland. They spent their entire married life as residents in London, with summers in Bayfield and many trips to wherever their family led them from Edmonton to Woodstock, Kitchener, Rostock, Ottawa and Essex. Home was always where family was. A memorial service to celebrate Atty’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Rd N. London on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Many thanks to the entire staff at Chelsey Park, especially the 3rd floor staff. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Atty are asked to consider Alzheimer’s Society London and Middlesex.
