Alice Emmaline Farquharson

March 10, 2018

“May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.”
~1 Timothy 1:2 (GNB).

Received into the welcoming arms of our Lord and Saviour, Alice (née Brooksbank) died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 10, 2018, following a brief illness in her 86th year. Predeceased by John (2014), her life partner for 53 years. Alice was the dear mother of Brenda and Gerard, Brian and Laurie, Kim, and Larry, and grandmother of Meaghan and Doug, Tyler, Samantha, Danielle, Jacob and Kyle, whom she adored and loved unconditionally. While we will miss Mom and Grandma’s loving presence, we are comforted that she lived her life fully and, by her own words, was ready to meet Jesus. First and foremost, Alice enjoyed her role as a wife and mother, dedicating her life to her family. She treasured maintaining many enduring relationships with former students, classmates, and colleagues from her years of teaching elementary school and working in Christian education for adults and children. Alice served God the Creator as a faithful servant in her discipleship work, leading and hosting Bible studies and sharing the Good News. The Scriptures were her comfort and companion. Mercy and loving kindness were core values she lived and taught. Survived by brother Gordon and sister Beth, in-laws Robert and Evelyn, Ray and Cherie, Reg and Mary Jane, and Betty, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews and cousins. Alice greatly appreciated her wonderful and supportive church family at Riverside United and Byron United, and community neighbours in South Caradoc and Delaware. Remembered by many Brooksbank, Forsyth and Farquharson relatives, and friends, especially Diane and Gay, with whom she would speak by telephone almost daily. Predeceased by parents Frederick (1978) and Lyla (1981), brother Kenneth (1989), parents-in-law Alfred (1990) and Edna (2003), in-laws Donald (1983), Marlene (2002), Dorothy (2012), Patricia (2012), and Lloyd (2013), nephew Paul (2008), grandniece Kristin (2005) and cousin George (2017). A Celebration of Life for Alice is on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at BYRON UNITED CHURCH, 420 Boler Road, London, lead by Rev. Greg Brawn and Rev. Dr. Art Hiley, with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Stewart Cemetery, Tilbury East in July. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be directed to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Byron United Church Outreach Fund.

I've known Alice for almost a lifetime, at least since Kenesserie Camp and YPU days, and have never known anyone with a stronger faith, or with more loving determination to share it. It is so good that she had a happy celebration on her 85th birthday. I'm very sorry not to be with you today, but am not home yet since breaking my hip. Sending Love and Prayers for All Her Family

~ Louise Scott
