Dear Shwab family; Please accept my sincerest condolences. Al was a great friend to me for the last 15 years. He helped me in many ways when we met... me as a " green guy " working as a site supervisor for Fred Blumas and Media Multicom. As a mentor in the construction trade I could have not found a better teacher. We became fast friends over the years and I will miss him more than you can imagine. It breaks my heart that he was taken from us long before his time. His greatest fear over the last few weeks was that he wouldn't be able to return to work. I thank Sarah and Mike Grant for reassuring him that his job was always going to be there. He regarded his trade as his calling. I've never met a more tenacious, hard working and dedicated man than Alan. Despite many hard knocks and personal vicissitudes Al was a man who loved his friends, showed his true quality by helping others when they needed help and never expected to be repaid for his efforts because they were " the right thing to do ". Al and I met once or twice every week to share some laughs and talk " shop ". He was always ready with an amusing anecdote or an intriguing or funny story. Our lives had some interesting parallels. He knew my father from his time tending bar at the old York Hotel. Years later I ended up managing that same establishment. We knew and had worked with a lot of the same people over the years. Al and I shared a love for music and being a musician I often lent him new recordings by groups I thought he would like. He loved old rock and roll and blues music but was very keen to listen to anything new that had merit. We were both avid Neil Young fans. Some of my fondest memories of Al were when he would show up for gigs I was playing. He always had a kind word for independent musicians and understood what working for next to nothing meant...a love for what you did. I miss him and I'll never forget him. Dearest Regards Ernie Leitch
