José “Joe” Medeiros

After enduring many health challenges, José Medeiros passed away peacefully, accompanied by family, at University Hospital, London, in his 79th year.

José Medeiros was born in 1946 to loving parents Manuel and Maria in the parish of Relva, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. José immigrated to Canada at a young age. He worked as a skilled tradesman in the construction industry for many years until his retirement from the City of Hamilton. He was an avid supporter of the S.L. Benfica Football Club and adored the classical music of the Hamilton Portuguese Band.

José was a proud man who committed his entire life to caring for his family. He was Maria’s beloved husband for over 55 years. He is the cherished father of Susy and Mark Blesity and a loving Vovo to Zackary and Emma. He was a dear brother to Filomena (deceased) and her husband, Antonio Fidalgo, brother-in-law Joao, and wife, Genoveva Olivieria. His many nieces, nephews, and cousins will also remember him.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Rene Martin, the medical team at University Hospital, and all the staff and residents of Longworth Retirement Home for making his final year so memorable.

Visitation will occur at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., with prayers at 8:30 p.m. A Catholic mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Divine Parish, 390 Baseline Road West, London. The interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.  The Church will be live streaming the service.  Please see the church’s website at https://www.springbankcatholic.ca for live streaming information.
