Frances “Elaine” Thompson
October 19, 1933 - February 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Elaine Thompson (née Dick) on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in her 92nd year. She passed peacefully at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington with Murray by her side.
Elaine was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and treasured grandmother. She will be missed immensely by her husband Murray; her children: David (Sandy), Stephen, and Fraser (Carmen); her grandchildren: Wade (Lindsay) and Brett (Natalie), and Liam and Ethan.
She was the middle child of Proctor Alexander Dick (d. 1994) and Lena Dorothy McAdam (d. 1985). She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Moir and her brother and sister-in-law David and Delynne Dick – all from Chatham, Ontario.
She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Helen Thompson (London) and her brothers-in-law Jack Thompson (Trenton) and Wally Moir (Chatham) and her many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was born in Chatham on October 19, 1933. She attended McKeough Public School and Chatham Collegiate Institute and then headed off to Ontario Ladies’ College in Whitby (now known as Trafalgar Castle School) and Albert College in Belleville.
Her career aspiration was to be a nurse. She attended the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in London, Ontario and graduated in 1956. She was a nurse at Victoria Hospital until she became a stay-at-home mom in 1960. A blind date with Murray in 1958 led to their marriage on May 30, 1959. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2024.
The family would like to thank the following for the care she received while living at the condo: the “Hearthstone by the Lake” team of nurses and PSWs, as well as Janette and Gillian; the Halton Health at Home team and the SE Health (St. Elizabeth) nurses. We would also like to acknowledge the kind and considerate care she received in the past week while at Carpenter Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 with funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either: The Oakville & Milton Humane Society https://omhs.ca OR Carpenter Hospice https://www.thecarpenterhospice.com .

The Thompson's are family, have been for over 60 years!!! I have so many fond memories of time spent at the cottage at Rondeau and in Toronto/Mississauga. Mrs. T. always had so many stories to tell, opinions to be heard and lessons to learn. To this day, I can still hear her saying "park it or move it bud" as she wheeled around a slow moving car in downtown TO, not giving the driver a chance to do either! A lesson on how to drive in downtown TO that came in handy during my time working there. Big hugs to all. love Lori

I am saddened to hear of Elaine's passing. Growing up due to distance, we did not see our cousins often. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding, and in later years we attended our children's weddings. Elaine was smart, funny, opinionated, and always interesting. We spoke on the phone a lot until she became ill. I shall miss her so much, I always looked forward to her calls. The many memories will stay with me. Rest in peace Elaine. - Sandra Fraser McAdam Stemp
"Dear Mom, I'm so grateful for the way I was raised. You were never afraid to be my mother - to put your foot down, to teach me right from wrong, to make sure I did my best. You always let me know I had a mom who cared about me, who believed in me, who was there for me no matter what. Growing up with that kind of love and support made such a difference in my life, it made who I am today, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart" My mother was never afraid to voice her opinion or be one to mince words. She was always pure in her intentions and true in her actions and I feel I always had someone in my corner and loved unconditionally. As I go forward, I remember her strength and devotion towards Christianity, her fierce sense of pride, her generous heart and sensitivity, her sense of humour ( she always laughed at my stupid jokes ) Throughout her life and especially in her last days , Mom set us an example of unconditional devotion, taught our family valuable life lessons and never lost her indomitable spirit. I know Mom is with us now and always. Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes, because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. I love you Mom. Rest In Peace Mom. God bless you and keep you.

Dear Murray & family: We are sorry for the loss of your beloved Wife, Mom & Grandmother. Aunt Elaine had a big heart and she helped out many family members because cared. Elaine being a nurse had extensive medical knowledge & I learned much. Your kindness helped many of us.. Rob and I hosted many family gatherings and you & Murray always attended and supported us.
