Shirley Carson (née Fraleigh)
October 12, 2024
Shirley died peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at AgeCare Long Term Care Home in London. Shirley was the daughter of Robert and Victoria Fraleigh. She lived into her 97th year and was predeceased by her sister Ruth, and her 2 brothers, Cliff and Bill. She outlived most extended family of her generation. Shirley is survived by her daughter Barbara Mitrow (Victor) of London and their daughters, Natalie (Chris Hourd) of London, Kathryn (Hamish Marshall) of Toronto, ON, and Laura of Halifax, NS; and by her son Allan Carson (Dianne Pilon) of Chilliwack, BC and their children, Matthew of Victoria, BC, Benjamin (Victoria) of Slocan Valley, BC, Rachael of Toronto, ON, Naomi of Chilliwack, BC, Sarah (Trevor Knopf) of Osoyoos, BC, An (Jeff Fontaine) of Victoria, BC, Moss, TieJian, Xiao, and Jianyang all of Chilliwack, BC. Shirley is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Shirley grew up and lived her entire life in London. She had a dear group of friends who remained close throughout her life well into their senior years. Some of whom she vacationed with and took cruises with, all of whom she outlived. She enjoyed family gatherings, extended family picnics, and summer vacations cottaging at Ipperwash with her children, her parents, her siblings, and nieces and nephews. Later in life she enjoyed trips to the Muskoka area with family. She hosted family dinners that will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, who were given lots of space to have fun with cousins.
Shirley loved making family members their favourite pies for special occasions. She was a proud, independent woman, and since being widowed in 1988, lived on her own in her home up until 3 years ago.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her first husband and father of her children Murray Simpson, and by her second husband Clarence Carson.
A special thank you to the staff at AgeCare Long Term Care Home on Blackwater Road in London for their compassion and exceptional and attentive care to Shirley over the past three and a half years.
A private graveside service for family will be held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church Cemetery, 21557 Richmond Street (Arva) London, Ontario. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Shirley please consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
