Klara Erika (Gécseg) Basile
September 8, 2024
Passed away suddenly at LHSC on September 8, 2024. Klara lived a vibrant, joyful life, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She was the beloved wife of Aurelio for 53 years, a devoted mother to David (Gina) and Erika (Ryan), and a cherished Nonna to Tyler, Morgan, and Ella. Klara’s love extended beyond her immediate family; she was an adored sister-in-law to Nino and Cathy, Pina and Sal, and Vito, and a beloved Zia to Trisha (Marco), Paul (Krista), Sydney, Kennedy, Cohen, and Griffin. She is now reunited with her father, Joseph Gécseg, mother, Rozsa Mecs, stepfather, John Mecs, sister-in-law Ina, and niece Lina. Klara’s heart was always full of love for her family, friends, and her Hungarian and Sicilian communities. Her passion for helping others and celebrating her heritage was a cornerstone of her life. Klara embraced every opportunity to travel and explore the world, always finding her way back to her roots in Hungary, where she shared precious moments with loved ones. Her warmth, generosity, and spirited nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Klara’s legacy of love, kindness, and celebration of life will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Donations can be made to the Children’s Aid Society London & Middlesex (specifically children aging out of foster care) and/or Waterloo Wellington Hungarian Presbyterian Church.

Klara and I have been friends since 1976 when I moved to London and worked at UIC. I have been waiting for her to get back to me on my recent text to find out how she is doing. I only found out today from our mutual friend Sue Spence that she passed. I have no words. I am numb. I will miss our get togethers and the laughs we had. My heart goes out to Aurelio and family. I will miss you Klara. God bless. Julie Charbonneau
