Suman Goela (née Gupta)

August 13, 2024

Passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Suman, aged 71, called London home for over 46 years. Beloved partner of Ranjit for over 51 years. Loving mother of Aashish (Neena) and Anita (Kishan), grandmother to Akshaye, Arjun, Anjna and Niam.

Both a lady and a revolutionary, she profoundly influenced the lives of not only her large extended family, but the local community through varying business endeavours and her native India through charity. She was renowned for her keen eye for quality interior decor and her immaculate gardens. Her vitality and infectious laugh will be missed by all.

A private ceremony and cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hindu Cultural Centre, 62 Charterhouse Crescent, London on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 pm with refreshments to follow.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Suman can consider donating to HCC or a charity of your choice.

Dearest Ranjit & family, our hearts are grieving with you. Suman was such a bright light, full of joy, fun and enthusiasm for life!. She was a beautiful friend, affectionate, generous and one of the kindest people I have known. Though her soul is soaring in divine freedom, the sorrow is for those left behind. Perhaps we can find some comfort in knowing that she is free. " Has the body a soul? No. The soul has a body. And well does that soul know when this body has served its purpose, and well does that soul do to lay it aside in high austerity, taking it off like a stained garment". (Megory Anderson, Sacred Dying)

~ Suman & Gurinder Brar and Krishna Thapar

We feel extremely sorry and send heartfelt condolences to you all. We remember the joyful moments together we shared with her at our home and at the lake just few weeks ago, and also were able to witness and chant verses from Shrimad Bhagvad Gita when peacefully her soul departs. Life is filled with uncertainties, and while we may not understand why things unfold as they do, we must gather the strength to face the inevitable with courage and grace. Of course, no words can compensate the loss of mother, but the only thing we collectively do PRAYER, The teachings of our scriptures remind us that the soul is eternal, beyond birth and death. As Lord Krishna imparts in the Bhagavad Gita: "न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचिन् नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः। अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे।।" The soul is neither born, nor does it ever die; it has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. It is unborn, eternal, permanent, and primeval; it is not slain when the body is slain." Let everyone remember the beautiful moments shared with her, and take comfort in the knowledge that her soul will find peace in the embrace of Lord Krishna. This life is but a chapter in the soul's journey, and in passing from this world, she moves towards a higher realm of peace and light. "असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय। मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय।।" Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, and from death to immortality. These words are a prayer for all of us to be guided from the illusion of separation to the truth of unity, from the sorrow of loss to the light of divine understanding, and from the fear of death to the realization of the soul’s eternal journey. May Lord Krishna bless her with the ultimate peace, and may He give you and everyone in the family the strength to bear this transition with courage and faith. Our prayers are with you, always. ॐ शांति, शांति, शांति With heartfelt sympathy and prayers, Uncle, Auntie and Tripathi family

Since I was a kid I have always known Suman Dadi (grandma) as the one who feeds my father when he travels to Canada for work. On meeting her in person I realized she was much more than that. She was affectionate and always welcomed us with open arms. We all will miss her loving touch.
