David Edward Wighton, of London, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in his 62nd year. David was born in Sarnia, Ontario on February 12, 1963.

Beloved brother of Dan (Jan), Jim (Moia), Bob, Debbie (Ron Raes), the late Greg (Margaret), Mark (Mary Anne), and Mary Beth (Dawn Baxter). David will be missed by his over 60 nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews as well as his in-laws: Marilon (the late Al Lindsay), Fran (Joe Luschak), Victor (Rose) Chetcuti, Louise (Steve Fulton), and Peter (the late Brenda) Chetcuti.

David lived his life with kindness, compassion and strength. As a Care Coordinator with PHSS Medical and Complex Care in the Community, David helped those with disabilities live their lives as fully and meaningfully as possible. As Volunteer Coordinator, he brought people together, connecting those with disabilities with volunteers, in a constructive and positive way. His dedication to creating a more inclusive world has left an indelible mark on those he mentored, and those who received his particular brand of respect, dignity and consideration. David was most proud of his ability to help people with disabilities to get settled into their new homes in the community. On July 24, 2024, David was the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award from PHSS Medial and Complex Care in the Community for his significant contributions to the organization and the people they serve.
Outside of work, David had a myriad of interests, including cooking (especially pie-making), sharing meals with friends and family, and a passion for finding the best deals at garage sales and thrift stores. Together with Joe, David was active in The Pedal Pushers Cycling Group – an activity of the Huff N’ Puff Seniors Fitness Association. They were also volunteers of the Out of the Cold program at St. John the Evangelist Church, where they helped serve dinners to Londoner’s experiencing hunger.
His good humour, generosity, and quiet intelligence will be missed. Throughout his illness, David displayed an uncommon acceptance and practicality that made it easier for those he loved to take this journey with him. He would particularly like to thank those that helped and supported him and Joe throughout his illness.
David lived a life full of love and authenticity. He was, simply, a good person, and he has left this world a better place than he found it.
