Martha Jane (Janey) Evans
March 20, 1956 - July 21, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Janey, her life cut short by complications related to a fall in Digby, Nova Scotia. She was as close to perfection as anyone who walks the surface of this earth could be – a perfect wife, an extraordinary mother and the best friend anyone could ask for. She was kind, selfless, wise, fearless, had the best sense of humour, the most contagious laugh and was so willing to love. Janey looked after all her children always, and her children’s friends whenever she could. It is a gift she had in spite of losing her own mother at the age of 15. She was the heart at the centre of our world and the thread that wove her community together.
Janey was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario and completed high school as an Ontario Scholar. She then came to Western where she graduated with her BScN. She met Brian at a nursing pub while in her third year at Western, and the rest is history. Janey worked in Rehab Medicine while in London. She and Brian then went to San Francisco and Scotland while he did additional training. They settled in London in 1983. They enjoyed 46 happy, busy years together. They have 4 children; Shawn, Katie, Joel, and Justin and was a “G-ma” to Natalia. She loved them with all her heart, and it was a huge heart. She knew the dance studio, hockey arenas, schools, soccer fields and meals on wheels routes well since she spent years at all of them. She was so proud of her children, and spent evenings talking about them with Brian. She was far too humble to have these discussions outside family quarters. Janey and Brian finally reached the stage where they could start to travel, but these plans were all for naught.
It is difficult to understand her death; an earth angel taken from us far too soon. We hope she had a full understanding of how loved she is. Janey used to always say the best gift you can give your children is your time and she gave us everything. We will miss her endlessly and do our best to carry her BIG love forward and spread it to those around us. Please join us in celebrating Janey’s wonderful life at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where visitation will take place on Friday, July 26 from 6 – 8:00 p.m., and a funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing to donate in memory of Janey are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Humane Society London Middlesex.

Heartfelt condolences to Brian, Shawn and the other children. It is heart-wrenching to lose such a vibrant, loved person so suddenly. Wishing you all courage and strength.
Dear Brian, Shawn, Katie, Joel and Justin, Our hearts and prayers are with you at this time of tragic and immense loss of your wife and mother! Paul and I met Janey at nursing school at Western University and became fast friends, a friendship that carried through our adult lives even though we didn’t live in London. As has been mentioned by many, Janey was a beautiful and happy person with an infectious laugh and smile that would welcome you into her life and home. Brian and Janey hosted many nursing reunions so that all of the gang and their spouses could rehash our university days and brag on our children. I can’t imagine our 45th reunion without Janey! It won’t be the same and she will be missed! There will now be another bright star in the skies at night and an Angel looking over her family and friends! Love Rosie and Paul Jacuzzi

So very sorry to your family for such a huge loss. Janey is remembered as a kind, gentle spirit and a wonderful peer in our nursing class. Thoughts to you all. Agnes
Dear Brian, I’m devastated to hear of Janey’s passing - you are both such kind souls and I was always impressed with Janey’s enthusiasm and attention to the people she met in life - I can’t even begin to imagine the effect she would have as she elevated such spirit towards the people she loved such as yourself and your family. I’m very, very sorry for your profound loss and I offer my sincere condolences to all the Evans. I look forward to seeing you when I’m next in London. John.
Deepest condolences Dr. Evans, Shawn, Katie, Joel and Justin on the loss of the light of your family. Mrs. Evans was like another Mom to all of us who trained under Dr. Evans at Western. She was always welcoming and showed a genuine interest in learning more about us. An extremely kind and gentle soul, the world has become a little less bright without her. May her memories be a blessing. Thinking of our London family during this difficult time.
I am so deeply upset. Janey was a wonderful, kind and beautiful woman. She was always so kind to me. She was so kind to give me a Christmas card every year. Two years ago, she gave me a card with a hanging angel ornament on it, and for the last 2 years I have hung it on my front door. She was truly an angel in my life. I am so so sorry for your loss. She was truly one of the most wonderful and one of a kind women, who I will never forget. I am truly heart broken to see this news.
One of the most nicest and amazing people you will ever meet. It was a pleasure meeting you. You will forever be missed.
Dear Brian and family, So sorry to hear about Janey. Your heartwarming tribute to her was wonderful. Will be thinking about all of you as you celebrate her life…and I know that celebration and love for her will never end….. love, Brian
Brian, We were stunned to hear this sudden tragic news. I know many Western Plastic Surgery faculty and alumni will be saddened to learn of Janey's passing and will remember her smiling and upbeat presence at many Plastic Surgery events over the years. Deepest condolences from Alison and myself. Take care. Alison and Doug Ross
I was lucky enough to meet Janey through my niece’s friendship with her son. She was a very special person which was demonstrated by her extraordinary kindness. Although I didn’t know her well she took time out from her busy schedule to visit me while I was in the hospital…something that I will always remember. I am sure that she has touched many people in the same way and her loss will be keenly felt. My deepest condolences to the Evans family.
It was a shock to hear the news. Janey has had a lasting and positive impact on our family and on many others throughout her life. My sincere condolences to the Evans family during this difficult time.

When we read the obituary and saw the word perfection, we thought that was the perfect word for Janey. She was a beautiful, happy child and achieved so much as an adult. I went all through high school in Smiths Falls with Janey. She was always a friendly, outgoing girl with an infectious smile. She lived near the high school and many lunchtimes were spent at her house. I remember her being on the cheerleading squad, in the school band and on lots of committees, including the Yearbook Committee, to name just a few. Sending sincere condolences to all Janey’s family at this sad time.
I now understand where our dear friend Katie gets her big heart and contagious smile from. My thoughts are with you Katie and your family. 🫂
