Pamela Janet Frid MD, FRCPC

Pam was one of the finest people I knew - a principled academic, dedicated teacher, loyal colleague, caring physician and a wonderful human being. She did thankless, important and demanding work for which she never complained and always put her learners and her patients ahead of herself. Pam was one of the most honest and trustworthy people that I have known, and it was a privilege and a pleasure to work with her. She will be sorely missed.

It is with a heavy heart that my husband Robin and I hear about Pam’s passing. We have known Pam for a number of years. Pam was my senior resident during our paediatric residency and developmental pediatrics fellowship training at McMaster. My husband has known Pam since she worked in developmental pediatrics at Queen’s. Over the years our career paths have crossed many times both clinically and working with the Canadian Pediatric Society and the Royal College. She undertook many leadership roles over the years, especially those involving education/teaching of developmental pediatrics. Unfortunately, over the last few years her health was deteriorating, but despite this she continued her dedication and passion for these roles. We will definitely miss her smile, her insights and our end of clinic day social discussions. Our condolences go to her supportive and loving family whom we came to know through her many stories.

I am so saddenned to hear of Pam's passing. She was SO dedicated to the field of Developmental Pediatrics and in particular gave so much to the students. When I was writing my "old school" style pediatrics examination, the timing couldn't have been worse coinciding with the pre-mature birth of my first child. Pam re-organized her schedule to help me with my new circumstances and did 4 "long question" exam practices with me -- and they were long -- so involved a lot of time and my availability was a bit limited. I was so grateful that someone would do that for me but that was just what she was like - she put aside her own time to help me with that process. Spoiler alert - I passed after a long 36 hour round trip to Winnipeg and now 25 years later I am still grateful for that help at that most vulnerable time in my career. Her dedication will be remembered fondly.

Gutted to hear this news! RIP fellow Elmcrest 'E' winner Mr Brown's grade 5 class, circa 1967/68. Very sad news.

Dr. Frid was a big part of inspiring, encouraging and supporting me to become a developmental pediatrician. I truly don't know that I would be where I am today if it was not for her. It was an honour and privilege to get to train with her and have her as a mentor. I'm very sorry to hear of her passing. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

I am saddened to receive this news, and I extend my sincere condolences to her family and friends. I did not know Dr. Frid well, but the time I spent receiving her wisdom and advice was invaluable. She had an incredible way of summarizing information and cutting through long debates with a precise, humourous quip that would make all stop, laugh and move on. Invariably, she was always right. She will be missed, and there is a cloud of sadness over Children's Hospital today.

I was fortunate to work with Pam as part of the Royal College Committee for Developmental Pediatrics. Pam chaired the exam committee and provided fabulous steady leadership over many years. She was a delight to interact with. She will be missed.

So sorry I will be out of town when Pam‘s celebration of life will be occurring. I met Pam when I worked with her at CPRI. She was a part of a CPRI coworker’s group that would go out to dinner periodically and it continued when she moved to Thames Valley. I know the last few years were not easy for her with failing health, but she always kept a positive attitude. My sincere sympathy to her family and to her niece who she adored so much

I first met Pam when I accepted the position of Developmental Pediatrician at Queen’s University at the Child Development Centre in September, 1996. She was working as a Developmental Pediatrician, at Pathways for Children and Youth, and organized the undergraduate and postgraduate Growth & Development curriculum at Queen’s. When she moved to London, she handed over the teaching roles to me, and only then did I recognize what a challenging task that was. My respect for her immediately grew exponentially. I continued to meet her at various Conferences and always loved her phenomenal ability to add insight and practical contributions to any clinical challenge in Developmental Pediatric topics. Her smile was contagious and her demeanour always pleasant and kind. I will sincerely miss my friend and colleague but know she’s in a better place. Sincere condolences to all family, friends and colleagues.
