Doris “Dody” May Bucciarelli (née Delaney)

June 17, 2024

It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of our family matriarch, Doris “Dody” May Bucciarelli (nee Delaney), peacefully at McCormick Care home in London, Ontario on Monday, June 17, 2024, after a nine-year battle with a rare neurological condition at the age of 66.

Doris was survived and will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 43 years, Angelo Bucciarelli. She was so loved by her children Stephen Bucciarelli (Jackie), Maeve DeWit (Jarrod) and Kate Luscombe (Adam). Her grandchildren, Hallie Bucciarelli, Sophia & Theodore DeWit, and Ashton & Ava Luscombe, were the joy of her life. Doris was a treasured sibling of Mary Prusky, Tom Delaney (Madeleine), Frances Regier (daughters Alyssa & Madeleine Regier) and dedicated aunt to her many nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.

Predeceased by her parents, Helen & Patrick Delaney, and three brothers-in-law Garry Prusky, Doug Regier and Aurelio Bucciarelli, and her nephew, Deric Regier.

Doris was raised in Chapleau, Ontario, and then studied at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, where she received a degree in Business Administration. She and Angelo married in 1980 and moved to Bracebridge the following year, where she worked for the Herald Gazette. They moved to London, Ontario in 1989, where she raised her three children and began her career at London Health Sciences Centre working in the MS, pathology, and neurology clinics.

Doris had several interests, including jogging, gardening and sewing. She also loved decorating for every occasion; no sooner would the Christmas decorations come down than the Valentines decorations would come right out.

However, her true joy was her family. Her love for them surpassed everything else in her life. She always put family before herself, unfailingly ensuring everyone was included in the frequent family events she worked so tirelessly to make just right. She loved celebrating life and took every opportunity to do so with her friends, family, and loved ones.

Thank you so very much to the many doctors that helped Doris on her journey, including Dr. Mary Jenkins – LHSC Neurology, Dr. Tenile Gofton – Palliative Neurology LHSC and Dr. Susan McLaren, her GP.

Our most sincere gratitude goes to McCormick Care Home for the excellent care Doris received. Many thanks to Dr. David Birch and the amazing staff. There was a community of friends for Doris in the residents and PSW’s, and Gail Collins, her hometown friend who was there for her every need.

We would like to thank the many friends of our family that helped and supported Doris for almost a decade through this journey, especially her lifelong friend, Betty-Ann Cox, who shared many good times and her most difficult times.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception. A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person. To register for the livestream, please click here:  Remembering Doris. Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Doris to the McCormick Care Home Foundation.

Dear Angelo and family, I worked with Doris at the Herald Gazette many moons ago, and have thought of you guys many times over the years. You were one of the loveliest couples I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. I was heartbroken to see her obituary when I googled Doris today. I was thinking of traveling to Chapleau, and wondered if you guys might have returned home to retire. I see that you’ve made London your home and it sounds like you’ve had a great life there raising your family. It is no surprise to see the outpouring of love for Doris. She was a kind and generous woman in her 20s when I knew her. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to you and your family. Sending love and prayers across the miles.

Dody, You touched the souls of all those lucky enough to have crossed paths with you, in this walk of life. I am beyond honored to have spent the last year caring for you at Mccormick Home. You showed me the definition of strength and on the hardest days, you never failed to have a smile on your face. Your presence, lightened the room within. We shared many good laughs, inside jokes and so much more. You have given me reason to grow as not only an individual, but as well as a PSW. I will continue to honor your soul through the care I provide, daily. Although we will all miss you dearly, I am at ease knowing you are no longer in pain. Rest easy to a truly beautiful soul.

Doris, my dearest friend in the whole world. This was not in the plan. We were supposed to grow old together. I am truly grateful for all the wonderful memories but I wanted more. I am so angry that you were robbed of so many years. We shared so much of life’s milestones…happy and sad. We certainly lucked out in the husband department. Ange was your hero and your kids Stephen, Maeve and Kate couldn’t have done any more for you. I loved all the times we spent together and I will miss you till the day I die my darling friend. God bless you and please come and get me when it’s my time to go.
