Marie Louise Cleary (née Evans)
May 5, 2024
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Louise Cleary in London on Sunday, May 5, 2024, just days after her 96th birthday. Marie was the best friend and beloved wife of Jack for over 68 years, and was the proud and loving mother of Karen (Andrew) Waller of Ancaster and Kevin (Pat) Cleary of London. Treasured grandmother “Ticka” of Alexandra (Dan) Mailloux, Brad Waller and his partner Emily Foster, and Derek Cleary, as well as the best great-grandmother to her only great-grandchild, Hunter Mailloux. Born in Dublin, Ontario on April 29, 1928, Marie was predeceased by parents Frank and Camilla Evans of Dublin, brother Bill Evans of Niagara Falls, and sister Joan Mayman of Long Island, New York. Marie retired from teaching in 1985 after a career pioneering remedial reading in Toronto Separate School Board and the special education program at London District RCSS. She was a devout parishioner at Holy Family Parish in London, and a 50+ year active member of the Catholic Woman’s League. Marie spent many sun-filled winters with Jack and friends in Arizona, and was a long-time member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club. World travel was a passion she shared with her family. Thank you especially to Dr. Beswick and his team of professionals at University Hospital for their care and compassion in Marie’s final days. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta Street, London on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Cemetery, Seaforth, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie would be appreciated and can be made to a charity of your choice.

A donation has been made to Stratford House of Blessing. Message from the donator: To Karen, Kevin and families, Our deepest sympathy to you on the passing of your wonderful mom. She certainly enjoyed a long and well lived life - she and Jack were a wonderful couple. She was always so thoughtful to my mom after dad passed away. We had a wonderful visit with her at her place in December and she still was greatly interested in all the Murray relatives and history. No doubt you will miss her greatly but you were so fortunate to have had her with you for all these years. Sincerely, Larry & Lina
So sorry to hear of your loss. Marie was a long time friend of my mother Doreen Marchand (nee Murray) from St Columban. Mom always mentioned Marie when we went to cemetery Sunday in St. Columban over the years.
Very sorry to hear of your Mother’s death. Both your Mother and Father were tremendous people. I am sure that she will be deeply missed. Stephen Goettler
On behalf of the residents and staff of Richmond Woods Retirement Residence we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Marie. May you take comfort in the memories of love shared and find peace now, and in the days ahead.
I will always think of Marie the last time I saw her, dressed jauntily in a perfect hat and coordinating outfit while out on her daily walk. She was a kind and loyal friend to my mom Kay, who I know will miss her. Condolences to all the family.
A true inspiration on how to live graciously and with gratitude. A wonderful Godmother to Mike as well.
