Janet Sage
July 29, 1940 - April 16, 2024
In loving memory of Janet Sage – who left this earth peacefully in the early morning of April 16, at the age of 83.
Janet was an adventurous soul and trailblazer in her early years, and devoted mother, wife and volunteer for the majority of her life. She was a cherished wife to Gordon for 38 years, including journeys that saw her traverse continents and cultures with courage and grace. From her early days in Sudbury, Ontario to Zambia, Africa, where she married the love of her life in 1970, Janet’s journey was one of heartfelt connections, enduring friendships, and infinite generosity.
She returned to Canada with Gordon and settled in Schumacher, Ontario, where she became a cornerstone of the community, dedicating her time to various charitable organizations including St. Martin de Porres through St. Alphonsus Parish, which played a large role in her Catholic faith. She returned to Sudbury during her early retirement and moved to London in her later years. Janet’s passion for helping others was paralleled only by her devotion to her family, including her son Jeffrey (Lindsay), and her much adored grandchildren, Cooper, who inherited her kind and compassionate spirit, and Molly, who is the embodiment of her humour and adventurous nature, both of whom brought immense joy to her life.
She is predeceased by a number of beloved family members, including her husband, Gordon, her parents, Emilio and Emilia (née Schiavo) DeSimone, her brother Frank, and sister Rose (Ron) Richardson, her nephew, David, and her brother-in-law, Alan.
She will be dearly missed by Jeff, Lindsay, Cooper and Molly, and her nieces and nephews, Susan (Lawrence), Dan, Wayne (Lindsay), Michael, Carla (Adrian), Carin (Ed), Cindy (Seth), Chris, her sisters-in-law Pat, Sheila (Tom) and Lenore, David’s wife Joanne, numerous grand-nieces and nephews, and her in-laws, Ted and Eileen Zajac.
Janet’s legacy is one of family values, community building, a nurturing spirit and a terrific sense of humour that lives on in her son and grandchildren. Her social nature, friendly ways and frequent jokes will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her, including many dear friends from the Caruso Club in Sudbury, the Dante Club in Timmins, and the Westford Towers in London.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt and enduring thanks to the London Home Palliative Care Team, the St. Elizabeth’s / SE Health nursing team, the VON personal support team and the staff at Glendale Crossing.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Friday, April 19, 2024, between 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a Catholic funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Livestream is available for those unable to attend in person.
